Edwin Valero's Team Dispute Details of Recent Arrest

The news was flying all over Venezuela that undefeated WBC lightweight champion Edwin Valero was arrested several days ago for carrying a firearm, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving well above the speed limit. While he did get into a situation with the local police, Valero's publicist Reynaldo Solorzano says the media stretched the truth without confirming any of the facts.

Most likely he simply had to pay the pigs off.

Very likely. I know Venezuela very well and this is all supposition, but he might have refused to pay them off (out of some sense of pride) and that's a big no, no there. Valero is an avowed Chavez supporter so 1) the mostly anti-chavez press might be exaggerating the facts to tarnish his name and/or 2) Being as he is a very public supporter of Chavez the word will probably come down to dismiss whatever charges the officers made. I expect nothing will come of this.

Now how about getting him back in the ring as soon as possible!

Yeah that was basically the jist of my point really, essentially for the reasons you gave. In a nutshell, things don't quite work the same way down there lol.

Lol, at the speeding claim, as if they actually use radar guns, like they really even enforce that down there.
