Was JCC a ***** for "making" Whitaker fight at 145? Did it effect the outcome?

In 1993, Pernell Whitaker and Julio Cesar Chavez agreed to meet no higher than 145. It didn’t affect the welterweight in the scenario as Whitaker went out and clowned Chavez regardless of the draw scores which resulted. Whitaker, a former Lightweight champion, was forced to shave little more than a pound from his previous bout against Buddy McGirt and had, in fact, been a Jr. Welterweight himself little more than a year earlier.

The weight was no issue then.
Cotto fought Clottey at 146. IF, IF, IF the fight is at 145, that's one extra pound for Cotto to lose.

but the problem with your argument, as in the other thread, is that weight was never going to be a determining factor for either of them, whitaker wasnt some huge welter, and neither was chavez, whitaker didint rehydrate 15-20 lbs afterward, and chavez was also a small welter, weight just wasnt that big of a deal in that instance, we knew it wouldnt have some huge adverse effect on whitaker like it could with cotto, however after seeing cotto come in at 146, thats not so bad.

Honestly bro the Cotto stans are really pissing me off. he weighs in at 146, and they are complaining about 2 more pounds against a man who was fighting at 130 three fights ago. It's either he sheds the pound or two, or fights Mosley or Clottey in fights he could easily lose, or fight Paul WIlliams or Margarito in a fight he would certainly lose.

Pacquiao should fight Cotto at 147. Why wouldn't he want to recieve full credit for the win?

Cotto isn't considered a big welterweight either, he's actually quite small.

If it's at 145, to me there should be no excuses from cotto fans IF he loses. Same with Pacquiao if he loses.

            I agree.

But the thing is....you know that if Cotto just walks Pac down and destroys him...which is possible, all anyone is gonna hear is that Cotto is too big obviously he killed a featherweight blah blah blah.

No it didn't, but Whitaker was a natural lightweight in his prime. He was small. Mosley going down to 144 is not the same. Cotto shouldn't go down more then 145.

True. Not from me, but many people will. Goes with the sport I guess and Nuthuggerism in general.

On the flip side, even if the fight were at 147 and Pacman won, "Margarito destroyed Cotto!!" or "Clottey destroyed Cotto!" or "Cotto was SHOT!!" etc.

There will never be peace here.

I agree, but what can you say. Well if that happened it would be true, because who was the last credible opponent Cotto walked down and smashed up....Juidah? It's a lose lose scenerio for Cotto, if he wins then people would say it's like James Kirkland losing to Dawson, if he loses........Then what can i say it would be humiliating.

At first I thought they should fight at 144 to make it fair, but now with all this backslash I hope they fight at 154! lol, no seriously I agree 145 is good.
