In the first one, clinching was a part of it as long as you kept the action going, in the second, clinching wasn't a part of the game at all.
Lennox Lewis, when he was commentating was giving grief to a ref because he broke the fight at every clinch and said it was part of the game.

I think what is allowed depends on the ref, some consider you can block punches with your elbows, some say it's cheating.

And you do you think Clinching is a part of boxing? Explain why.
clinching is ok as long as its not a part of your offensive strategy.

punch punch grab is the worst kind of boxing ever. its a lazy style that will only take you so far.

if you do have to clinch, only do it when you're dead tired and need a rest. if you're dead tired all the time, you need to get your stamina up or quit boxing.

I can't stand a ****ty ref who jumps in between the fighters as soon as they get within 1 foot of eachother. Some of the greatest fights had lots of infighting, with clinching being a part of that.

          What he said.

Guys like Mercer and Duran are underrated clinchers

Too bad today it's a luxury when two fighters will exchange inside without holding. It's rare to see Castillo/Corrales & Marquez/Vazquez-like infighting.

There really is nothing better than watching two skilled guys exchanging inside without feeling the need to hold on. Juan Diaz is another guy who does a good job of keeping his hands moving on the inside.

Clinching is to be used as a tool. Its only a problem when its done excessively.

yes to black fighters primarily. rican and mexicans look at it like your a b*tch if you hold. to me its ok if your in trouble and need to clinch to avoid getting knocked down. but id rather see to guys swing it out until the bell rings our someone goes down.

you couldnt be more wrong. its fighting not wrestling. if a guy is coming at you throw a punch or move. not clinch and throw a guy to the side.

Cotto doesn't use clinching or very very rarely if he does.
