I'm asking because Larry Merchant and his minions would have us believe that Floyd Mayweather has been tip toeing as far around a possible fight against Mosley as he can. But Steve Kim recently reported that Mayweather was offered $15 million for the Marquez fight. In February Steve Kim reported that Mayweather was offered $8 million for the Mosley fight.
I feel like it's a script. They offer Mayweather more money for the fight against the 135 lb champ so that he takes that fight instead of the one against the 147 lb. champ. Then it plays into the haters perception that Mayweather is cherry picking fights. Because Mayweather took $25 mil to fight DLH instead of $8 mil to fight Margarito and then he took $20 mil to fight Hatton instead of a non-existent offer to fight Cotto.
I know that Arum wanted to make the Mayweather-Margarito and Mayweather-Cotto fights AFTER Mayweather left Top Rank, but I kind of doubt that Golden Boy actually wanted to make Mayweather-Mosley. I get the feeling that they low balled the offer for the Mosley fight and made a big offer for Marquez so that thing would play out the way that they are. I guess they want to keep Mosley available to fight Pacquiao or Cotto.
