Just crossed my mind. Lewis and Wlad are similar in many ways now (except Lewis was a fighter that was very calm under pressure and showed better rhythm). However, I wonder, and I think maybe Emanuel Steward might be hoping this too; what if Haye attacks Wlad and Wlad ends up fighting like Lewis did when he fought Grant?
Right now we hear Wlad saying he will jab Haye to death and then finish him off in the last round, but if he is attacked, how will he respond?
Haye actually may be preparing Wlad mentally to bring out the best in him and since Emanuel is there, Wlad could be prepared and make Emanuel happy by fighting like Emanuel always wanted Lewis to fight every fight. A side that Vitali brings into fights but we rarely if ever have seen it from the kid brother.
You see, I've felt it was like this with Lewis (and Wlad) with Manny. They came to Manny to become a complete fighter that is smarter in the ring and can control the fight in order to protect their chin. So Manny fine tunes them and starts them out with building their confidence up by showing them how to fight tall and fight behind the jab while understanding distance and the clinch (if need be). Use your size.
However, after some fights under their belt like this, Manny wants them to put it all together and wants them to be like Hearns, but Lewis and Wlad decide to stick with safety first which pisses off Manny but he figures, what can you do...maybe I can stick them with an opponent that can force them to fight at their full potential that can excite the crowd.
Manny was always happy when Lewis was pissed off. That is why he was calm after Lewis lost to Rahman...he knew what Lewis would do in the rematch and he knew it would elevate Lewis as a fighter because the rematch would be HL material. The same with his acceptance from what I recall with fighting Grant. I see it right now with his excitement with Chris Arreola as a possible future opponent...but I don't think it will work out like Manny hopes. But the Haye fight could end up like Lewis-Grant if things work out the way Manny may want. Or maybe I'm wrong and Manny will stick with the no risk policy Wlad has been fighting with. But it was also Manny who raised his voice a bit with disappointment to Wlad during one of his matches "that this isn't going to look good to the crowd/fans" bit during his fight against Thompson (was it???).
Just a thought.
Be back later....
