Does Mayweather owe more to the sport?

There's a lot of haters & huggers on this board, but unbiasedly do you feel he he owes more to the sport of boxing?

Personally, I say yes. My reasoning is of all the past greats, they gave us every possible fight. I look at Oscar, Bernard, Winky, Sugar Ray, Duran, Ali, etc etc and the one common denominator is that they gave the sport and its fan's the fights they wanted to see.

I don't feel Floyd has at the higher weight classes (140,147,154).

    Also,

Very few get to the pedestool in boxing that floyd has, I feel where past greats did the torch proud and carried the sport, floyd had/perhaps still has the opportunity to carry the sport but he refuses.

no. and the fact that you're putting the onus of "carrying the sport" on floyd is very telling

what he did at 130 n 135 was great. he's already a hall of famer & a top 50 ATG. What has he done at 140,147,154? Not nearly as much, so yes the tail end of his career doesnt quite stack up to the early years. Other than financially ofcourse.

telling of? that he was in a position to bring boxing back? absolutely. With MMA on the rise and boxing in decline I think floyd could have brought the sport back if he wanted, instead he retired. As I said he was in a rare position to carry the sport, but to me it seemed like he didnt care to.

Well if Floyd ever wants to be mentioned in the same context as SRL, Duran, Ali, etc then he most certainly does. If he prefers a legacy of "could've beats" then go ahead, stay retired, or fight some featherweights several weight classes above where they've ever fought, same thing.

as ive seen in other threads, you dont know ****.... fighters move up in weiight all the ****in time...... its a problem when floyd fights a smaller man all of a sudden? but its cool for a 5'10" de la hoya to fight 5'6" pacquiao? seriously, there is no way to even justify your hate..... you should just shut up

I dont think its fighting a smaller man thats the problem, i think it's that theres plenty of fish in his own division that he should tend to.
