Pacquiao to beat Hatton by KO, says ESPN poll

Pacquiao to beat Hatton by KO, says ESPN poll
    04/08/2009 | 05:26 PM

MANILA, Philippines – It’s going to be a brawl and brutal.

And in this type of a bout, many fight fans see Manny Pacquiao emerging victorious.

ESPN, the world leader in sports, conducted a poll on the coming Pacquiao-Ricky Hatton title duel for the International Boxing Organization (IBO) light-welterweight belt, and the Filipino ring icon emerged a high 55 percent favorite to win by way of a knockout.

The 7,102 people surveyed were asked “How will the Manny-Pacquiao-Ricky Hatton light-welterweight fight be decided?"

The 30-year old General Santos City native also received significant votes should the 12-round bout goes the distance, netting 20 percent out of the total 7,102 of those who were polled.

Those seeing “The Hitman" pulling off a knockout win registered 15 percent, while only eight percent agree the Briton retaining his 140-pound title by way of a decision.

Just one percent thinks the match pitting two of boxing world’s meanest punchers will end up in a draw.

That hardcore boxing fans deem the fight not lasting the full 12 rounds is understandable.

Both Pacquiao and Hatton are among the boxers with a high knockout percentage. The Filipino boxing idol has a record of 48-3, with 36 KOs or a 67.9 knockout percentage, while Hatton is even higher at 69.5 percent with his ring mark of 45-1 with 32 KOs.

Their respective trainers were even bolder in their predictions, none between Freddie Roach and Floyd Mayweather Sr. guaranteeing the bout would go beyond four rounds.

Roach was the first to say on record that Pacquiao will stop Hatton inside three rounds. Not to be outdone, Mayweather said that won’t happen since the Filipino is going to be gone a round earlier (second round). – GMANews.TV

We all know polls don't work..How many Ring ****zine "experts" said Pavlik was going to Knock Out Bernard Hopkins out of 20 in a poll? 17, did it happen?

I agree. It's gonna come down to chins. Pac's chin has been battle tested, and he takes a punch fairly well. Ricky on the other hand has been rocked by a few feather fisted fighters. Pac is definitely going to test his chin.

Pac has been rocked by people at lightweight and below. Hatton has been rocked at light-welter and welter, and has only gone down against Mayweather and Magee (as far as i'm aware). He's been in with heavy hitters, taken some solid shots flush and not gone down. Pac hasn't faced anyone this big and this heavy handed, so I think the concern has to be with Pac in terms of chin. In terms of cuts though, thats were Hatton should be worried. I would hate to see this fight stopped on cuts..

The ESPN poll said Hatton would KO Mayweather. I vividly remember it. So did HBO's poll.
