Hopkins Blames Adamek, Main Events For Fight Crumble

A few weeks ago, the news broke that a proposed Bernard Hopkins vs. Tomasz Adamek bout had fallen apart. Adamek, the IBF cruiserweight champion, considered the offer of $500,000 dollars, from Hopkins and Golden Boy Promotions, to be a lowball offer that undervalued his drawing power in New Jersey, where the fight was likely going to land. Kathy Duva of Main Events went on the record and said her fighter made the same amount of money for opponents with much lesser names. [details]

Takes two to tango and Adamek deserves more than $500,000.

Okay hopkins, So why do you want the fight with adamek if a win over him brings you nothing???? You beat adamek and you become the Man at cruiserweight so enough with the BS.

I would bank on Adamek filling up an arena before Hopkins. Hopkins has to fight a name before it even comes close to filling up. Adamek Vs Guillermo Jones would fill up an arena in certain parts of the country. Hopkins Vs Roy Jones will not sell out any arena.

Hopkins should just make the concessions here, he isn't getting any younger and could use a farewell fight.

you made sense until the Hopkins/Jones not filling up an arena part. I've been to a couple Adamek fights live, his loss to Dawson and his victory over Cunningham. I didn't even realize that there was a Polish contingent in the Orlando area, but that arena was packed with them and it was a great atmosphere. As for Jersey, Cunningham being the titlist and the American from Philly (not far down the road) there were about 5 Cunningham supporters not related to him and 5,500 screaming Poles. The man draws period, and to underestimate that point is ignorant and foolish business practice. The fight would make a ton of money in Jersey for both fighters and could possibly be one hell of a matchup. Its a shame it isn't going to happen.

              Hopkins is a moron.

Im sure a lot of people outside of the "Polish race", know who the best cruiserweight champion in the world is.

He doesnt want to fight Adamek, its clear. He knows what hes doing, he been doing it for years. He stays away from fighters his own size.

c'mon, we're calling Hopkins a ducker now? it's a shame what has happened to this proposed fight and how too many people are blaming the other and fans and such are pointing fingers (which is warranted to a degree) but some unnecessary comments are being made. Hopkins isn't really ducking Adamek here, and if he never mentioned Adamek as a possible opponent no one would've noticed or cared. I think he was looking at a decent fight for a thrid true title in a thrid weightclass. he just wanted to make a bit more money than what is realistic here and underestimated the fan support and drawing power of Adamek and overestimated his own.

Really, how well did the Jones/Calzaghe fight do How about Hopkins/Calzaghe? read the first paragraph the writer even states Calzaghe as the draw without Cal the fight attendance would have been poor! Let's not forget Hopkins/Tarver which did about 10,200 attendance.

Adamek can sell 17-20 thousand seats alone!

17-20 thousand is stretching it in America. In Poland, 35, in America, 10-12 thousand. I've been to Jones fights recently that drew 10k on his own. They could fill a 15k arena here in America. And thats the size of big arenas here in the states lately. The ring and all the support equipment and ancillary stuff such as press take up a ton of seats ringside.
