Ever heard of Gerry Cooney, "the Great White Hope", whose huge popularity was based to a large extent on the fact he was white? Stop this racist nonsense, please, it's really getting way beyond a joke now.

The world has changed a lot since George Cooney a quarter of a century ago.

People were okay with being white in Cooney's day - nowadays, people are ashamed of it. Most white guys alway root for the black fighter, because they've been conditioned by the Raskins and Kellermans to feel positive about the black fighters, and despise the white ones.

Yes, the hatred for white boxers is way beyond a joke now. I looked at NSB this morning and there's three new hate threads, one about Vitali, one about Wlad, and one about Hatton. It's happening in the other boxing forums too, the same every day and I'm sick of seeing it!

The reason the klitschkos don't get the respect has nothing to do with color.wlad got knockout by Ross puritty(24-13-1)at the time,got knockout by corrie sanders(who was a 4round fringe contender.he offered the fight to 10 other guys before sanders,which says he never saw him as a threat),got knockout by lamon brewster & claimed it was his cutmsns fault for putting too much gasoline on him(he also fired him as a scapegoat for losing).that doesn't earn you respect & vitali beat nobody & that includes losing to lewis( I don't care if he was winning at the time of the stoppage.look at his eye & last I remember champions fight 12 rounds not 6).he quit vs Byrd & his corner threw in the towel in amateurs vs maskaev( which he won't fight).why can't you accept the fact those brothers are OVERRATED & everyone who watches boxing other than klits fans can see that.COLOR has NOTHING to do with it! I like wladimir & believe he is the hardest working boxer out there.I think he is the perfect role model for any young boxer or child at that.he's great for the sport but he'd not as good as people think & his brother has not 1 career defining WIN yet.his 2 best opponents were Byrd(which he quit against)& lewis(who almost knocked his eye out.)he LOST.I always thought champions & legends were made by winning not by losing.

You may not feel okay with your skin colour but to project that on everyone else is ridiculous, and to claim that anyone who dislikes a given boxer must by definition dislike them because of their race is itself racist. And to claim that white commentators are anti-white makes your paranoia really laughable. The most hated boxer by far on these threads is Mayweather. A recent Mayweather thread got to over 50 pages in 2 hours, and a large proportion of the posts in that thread were from completely irrational haters.

And the "Great White Hope" thing wasn't anything to do with "being comfortable with being white", it was to do with racism. Anyone who is a true boxing fan wanted the best man to win when Cooney fought Holmes. Only racists wanted either one of the fighters to win because of their skin colour.
