JMM and Pacquiao are not regulars at 147 lbs. He's the bigger guy, period. He matches Cotto, Mosley, Berto, and Clottey much better. Now that's not to say Pac or JMM wouldnt fight Floyd...but you can't tell me Floyd has an even size match up against those guys and isn't sized up right against a Cotto or Mosley.

Nobody is denying his accomplishments, I think you're trying to lay that out a little too much to try and justify your point. But at the end of the day, it's your opinion because obviously you're going to vouch for him.

Now when you talk about the term "Generation" you can't base it on a 10 year stretch solely on the length of one fighter's career (which you're doing). You have to include all fighters that are still active, began fighting, and retire within the same time frame which can span the last 20-25 years. Floyd is up there, but its up for debate with names like Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones still being relevant during Floyd's campaign.
My argument for Mayweather.....i getting off work now so i will respond when i get home...

    MAYWEATHER
Floyd Mayweather: is the definition of an around Boxer, Most Experts would say Mayweather is Probably The Most Complete Fighter of his generation. In addition he is also recognize as the most superior technical fighter of all time
    • "My goal is to be one of the best fighters who ever lived," he said. "My career and legacy are very important to me and I feel I am already ranked among the best there ever where in the sport."

Emanuel Steward, said Mayweather has a feel for the defensive game that few fighters have ever had.
    • "He doesn't use a lot of slipping and sliding," Steward said. "He uses the one basic move, with that shoulder roll, but he's so good at it, and it comes so naturally to him, that he seems like he has fun trying to make a guy miss from right in front of him."
I was pretty amazed by what I saw when he fought Oscar. Oscar's a veteran of all these super fights and won the gold medal and had a world title so early in his career, but at the beginning of the fight, he was so nervous like he was a kid.
    • "Mayweather gave him that shoulder roll and Oscar threw maybe 100 punches and he didn't land."
    • "All you can do is face the guys who are in your era and he's faced them all and so far, he's beaten them all," Steward said. "You can't dog him for not beating Tommy or not beating Ray (Leonard), because those guys are gone. The thing about Mayweather is, he's answered every challenge he's ever been given. That's all you can ask of a guy."

Kevin Garside of the London Telegraph wrote about Mayweather after the Hatton fight:the truth was inescapable,
    • "Mayweather is a genius of the ring, a gladiator in tap shoes."

Kery DavisHBO executive said about Mayweather:
    • "Floyd wasn’t The Greatest of all time ,But He is the greatest of this Era."

    Bernard Hopkins said about Mayweather.
    • "Floyd is the best fighter in the world of this era and he showed that round after round."

    When Asked:
    • "Who is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Hopkins or Mayweather?"

In a conversation with the Grand Rapids Press, Hopkins left no doubt as to which of them is the better fighter of their time.
    • "The best fighter of our era -- my era -- is Pretty Boy Floyd," Hopkins said. "There's no doubt."

Sugar Ray Leonard, one of the best fighters to ever step foot in a boxing ring, Said about Mayweather
    • "Mayweather is the best of his time".
    • "He's an amazing fighter,"
    • "Very economical. It's all about the eyes. He's one of the few fighters I've ever seen, like Muhammad Ali, he watches every move his opponent makes, and capitalizes on those mistakes. That's a gift. You can't teach that. Floyd's number one this era. He's proved that, against Oscar, now against Ricky Hatton. He's fought the best fighters of his era, so that puts him up there. There's a few more fights left in Floyd, and bigger and better things to come."

Eric Brown (Pacquaio Assistant Trainner) said that Floyd Jr. being a gifted pugilist would “be the only man that would present Manny with a serious challenge and it would be a difficult fight for Pac” in light of “Mayweather’s brilliance in speed, intelligence, and defense.”

If you think a guy who uses his legs when he boxes, like Ray Leonard and Muhammad Ali, is a runner, then Mayweather is a sprinter. But fighters only resort to fighting flat-footed because they have no choice. Mayweather has plenty of options, but he's smart and chooses to hit and not be hit. He's a guy who weighed 148 pounds when he walked into the ring to face De La Hoya . De La Hoya weighed nearly 170.
Mayweather , has never had the challenger who could bring out the best in him like Thomas Hearns did for Leonard or like Leonard did for Roberto Duran.Mayweather is the most physically gifted fighter of his era and had no one in his weight classes who was truly close.

Hagler was never going to look good against Leonard period.....that doesnt meaned he was out of his prime..!!!

      come on be serious...
I don't think Leonard was great in that fight either.

That fight ****** IMO. It was basically a shell of Marvin plodding around the ring throwing slowish punches with no snap and a fairly ****ty version of Ray flurrying for 15 seconds and the end of each round and stealing 7 of them. Terrible fight.

I'm done anyway. About 2% of this forum takes you seriously.

Same with Floyd. Love Floyd - was hyping him up before he even sniffed a title shot. But I call a spade a spade. Some call it a heart .
I like you more and more. I never thought that would happen. True story.

              The answer is..................(DRUMROLL)

              Vacant.!!

There is no recognize champion at the Welterweight division.
The Last Universally Recognize champion with the RING BELT.

              Floyd Mayweather...

The Ring's titles are all you need to pay attention to. I'm a firm believer that their champions are the only true champions
im just wondering you said 8 fight at 154 and under, which i only see only 5 fight at 154 under not counting 140 because you stated, "31 Fights at 140 and under
              1.ricky hatton at 147
2.oscar de la hoya at 154
              3.carlos bladomir at 147
              4.zab judah at 147
              5.shamrba mitchell at 147
              there are only 5 fights

              1998-2002: W.B.C. Juniorlightweight (8 title defenses)
              2002-2003: W.B.C. Lightweight ( 3 title defense)

11 title defense in 5 years. that's an average of 2.2 per year

wow this a good question. pbf not my favorite but sometimes a pleasure to watch. based on what he has accomplished and his set of skills no doubt he is a future hall of famer and he will go down as one of the greats of his era. won titles in 5 weight classes and remained undefeated while doing so. has defeated future hall of famers genaro hernendez arturo gatti and his big victory over the golden boy oscar delahoya. has beaten undefeated fighters in the late diego corales and ricky hatton. has fought tough champs or former champs in the likes of jose luis castillo and zab judah and a super over the hill sharmba mitchell. but the fact of the matter is floyd holds 2 big wins at 130 where he spent a major part of his career and that was his 1st title win against g.hernandez and d.coralez. all of his other big wins are north of that weight class. so if i was to rank floyd based on a division ill go with 130. and i wouldnt rate him higher than 5 based on accomplishments there. not saying floyd aint better just going with the facts. just my opinion....

I love how horus acts like Mayweather didnt take all these fights because it wouldnt enhance his legacy.... there is no denying that mayweather did not fight the fights everyone wanted to see cause floyd didnt get enough money

If mayweather was really worried about his legacy he wouldnt of retired so early

You act like the generation ended or something just because Floyd retired. Don't make me laugh. We'll see whether or not he's the best of his generation when the rest of his generation retires too. Then we can compare. Otherwise Manny Pacquiao might disagree with that nonsense you spittin. Furthermore, I don't even know what generation you're referring to when both Roy Jones and Bernard Hopkins are rightfully rated higher than Floyd. You better pray Pacman doesn't do what Floyd couldn't: ie, clean out welterweight. We might not hear from you for a long, long time.
