Marquez should stay at 135 and defend. Forget about Mayweather.

I think right now, he should defend his title at least once more in July and if he can't get a Pacquiao-Hatton fight in December, he should defend again.

Lightweight is a very deep division and what seperates Marquez from Barrera and Morales is Barrera and Morales both did their fair share of work against really damn good contenders.

I think in July Marquez should fight Ali Funeka, who deserves another title shot imo after a respectable performance against Nate Campbell. On the Undercard, the semi finals of the lightweight tourney can happen.

In December, Marquez should fight the winner of Pacquiao-Hatton. If he cannot land them, then he should fight the IBF title winner in which will probably be Joan Guzman.

Then in his next fight, fight the lightweight tourney winner.

That will be a very respectable lightweight run:
    -Casamayor
    -Diaz
    -Funeka
    -Guzman
-Winner of lightweight tourney (Probably either Valero or Casamayor)

Whatever he does, he should NOT vacate if he goes up to 140. He shouldn't even be thinking 147.

Against who? There is not very much left in the division now. There are tough fights that he could have, but JMM needs to cash in. Fighting a tough guy for short money only risks a future megafight.

The only reason he dropped Floyd's name was to goad Pac into a third fight. Marquez can't fight effectively at 147.

JMM loses nothing by mentioning Floyd Mayweather. If the fight comes off it is HUGE reward for JMM (money and IF he won it would be one of the biggest accomplishments he could possibly achieve in the sport, just think about the recognition he could gain from a win) vs. limited risk (since most people would expect Floyd to smash him).

At this point in JMM's career it makes sence for him to go for the gusto. His career has been great but why not try to reach for the stars.

Did you read the post? If you did you would clearly know who there is in the division

Marquez is already past his prime, he's half as fast as he used to be and getting hit a lot more. This is making him much more exciting, and making more fighters want to fight him...but I think he needs to just take big fights right now before he leaves the sport. There is really no big names at 135 right now, the two biggest I would say are Casamayor and Juan Diaz and Marquez knocked both of them out.

I mean Marquez against guys like Guzman or Valero would be interesting but if I were Marquez I would be looking to fight Pacquiao.

I don't care what anyone thinks, I still wanna see Marquez vs Erik Morales lol. Morales arguably won the David Diaz fight and Morales would train his as$ off for a Marquez fight. I think it would be a fun fight to watch while it lasted (until Marquez KOs Morales)

theres no big names in the division, hes getting old he should jump up if he can. He has like 3 more fights left in his career.

If he want to be remembered he need to fight the likes of Hatton or Floyd

He will never fight Funeka or Guzman for that matter. JMM is not a young man, he needs to strike while the iron is hot.

He needs to cash in, and point blank he deserves it. Floyd is a cash in fight, so what if he loses that would be expected but he would be atleast 5 million dollars richer (which is about 4 to 4.5 million more he would make in the fihgts your suggesting. Lightweight is pretty much a dead division right now as far as opponents for JMM are concerned.

At 140 there is only the winner of the Pacman-Hatton fight and who says that JMM will get the winner? He could but it is not a sure thing, he needs options. Nate Campbell might do, but compared to Floyd,Pacman and Hatton your talking small time money.

If JMM was just comming up I would agree with you, but at this stage of JMM's career he needs (and deserves to fight for the most money possible) a HUGE fight.
