Oscar De La Hoya Says "Pacquiao Doesn't Hit Hard"

Oscar De La Hoya said that he felt so weak and helpless during last December's stoppage loss to Manny Pacquiao that during the seventh round he was hoping for the Filipino fighter to land a knockout blow. What's even more telling is De La Hoya's claim that Pacquiao is not a heavy hitter, at least not at their agreed upon weight of 147-pounds. Much of Pacquiao's steam as he rides into the May 2 showdown with Ricky Hatton, is the pounding he gave to De La Hoya. Two fights prior to the De La Hoya win, Pacquiao was barely able to get past Juan Manuel Marquez in a rematch that was held at 130-pounds. [details]

You don't have to be a nuthugger. As a boxing fan, you would know that fighters always have excuses when they lose, especially when they lost in an utterly embarrasing fashion. Not many fighters will accept defeat giving the other credit. Oscar talked tough (and even his partner Hopkins) in saying he would send Pac to school. Well he got sent to exile for two months before he could say something. Not nuthugging, you're just a hater. But you wouldn't accept that.

yes because oscar is comparing manny's power to middleweights. well, if oscar have had continued the next few rounds, his face is gonna be ****d and only then he wouldn't probably think of continuing boxing after a manny fight.

DLh should retire hes stopping other fighters like valero, angulo, kirkland and has overshadowed other fighters around his weight classes like wright, williams etc.

the guy should retire and look to use his promoting talents to promote younger fighters

It's about work ethics... Look at Mosley, 37 and can still do it. But it's harder everyday, you can't be hyping and promoting your fights at 35 years of age and expect to do well. I just hope no more PPV from Oscar until you can prove you can still fight. On another thought, it's best you retire.

By the way, I don't believe that Manny CAN'T hit hard. For the Oscar fight, he was constantly moving, and obviously, when you do that, you can't sit down on punches and get full leverage. It was more important for Manny to favor speed over power and just keep moving, which was a wise plan because he could have been caught by a big punch and knocked out. I don't believe Manny went into that fight knowing Oscar wouldn't be able to perform at his best, rather, he prepared for a tough fight and pulled off his game plan to perfection.

Having said all that, if the fight had continued, Oscar would have been knocked out in the next round or two. It would have gone exactly like the Diaz fight. Pac seems to reserve his full power until late. The first half of the fight apears to be spent breaking the opponent down with speed and accumulation of shots that force you to weaken. Later on, BLAM... lights out.
You hit it right on the head right there. The fight was going exactly the same as the Diaz fight, only worse. Oscar was being backed up into the corner and hunching over whenever Manny would land a body shot by the 7th. I am sure that If Oscard hadn't quit in his corner Manny would have turned his lights out by the 10th.
