Berto Still Willing To Unify With Cotto on June 13

krikya360.com was informed by promoter Lou DiBella that WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (24-0, 19KOs) is still willing to replace Antonio Margarito, and take on Miguel Cotto (32-1, 26KOs) in a unification bout on June 13. Top Rank's plan for a Margarito-Cotto rematch were sidelined on Tuesday when the California State Athletic Commission made a ruling to revoke Margarito's boxing license, which puts him on the shelf for at least one year in the United States. Margarito's license was revoked after the CSAC held a hearing to discuss the plaster-like substance that was found in his hand wraps prior to stepping in the ring with Shane Mosley on January 24. I'd like to see a unification. I don't think it'd be smart for Berto to step up to a fighter at the level Cotto yet. It'd be good for Cotto. Berto is good opposition and it would be good to see how he's bounced back although I think he's fine.

Cotto is far too good for Berto.

Think this would be a great fight!! huge step up for Andre..

Wonder how many, if any, Berto fans would be in the house (MSG) on the eve of the PR day parade??

          Think Arum makes it happen???

id say take berto as it should be a pretty easy win, a decent check, and an easy way to pick up another belt, fight mosely after and have all 3 major belts and then you wait for mr floyd to come back....

            miguel cotto 2009= REDEMPTION

I think it would be a good fight. I would have to give Cotto an edge at this point and he would most likely be a decent betting favorite. I might lay money on Berto though if he was getting solid odds because I think he can spring the upset, odds would need to be right to take the risk though.

i was there in msg against zab, and thought the same thing when it came to brooklyn coming to see judah fight, but it was no contest and the place was jam packed with puerto ricans as it should be!! Thast place was electric that night and i dont see why arum would have a problem staging this fight but he does have bad blood with gary shaw so behind the scenes it may take more than we think, but i think it makes sense. It would be good for cottos resume to give another fighter his first loss as hes done to several other fighters.

I think people underestimate Berto in this fight. I wouldn't go as far to say he would win, but I think it would be fantastic, exciting matchup. Stylistically them two in the ring would produce fireworks.

And you gotta love Berto for challenging Cotto, that's a huge step up and shows he is willing to fight the best.
