Ive never been a fan of the Margarito "hype". I personaly dont mind Margarito as a fighter and I actually love to watch him fight. I thought that he would win the Cotto fight. I just always hated the fact how Arum boosted him up so high and all the media bought it when his skills never warranted that. Even the biggest Margarito fan has to admit that his skills never warranted that. With that being said, I always felt that he was a good guy in and outside of the ring and showed alot of respect so I never hated him. Then comes the plaster thing and it changes everything. I heard alot of the writers who sweat Margarito trying to downplay everything. Some didnt write one single thing about the gloves and others try to say that you still cant take away everything he's done or if he did cheat then that still doesnt prove he cheated in any other fight and its not fair at all for anyone to suggest that. How? How is it not fair? To me if its found that he did cheat then you can easily say that he cheated before. 1st off Richardson said that he found blood on the gauze so that tells you he used them before.
2nd and most important, why would he pick now to cheat if he had never done it before? It would make no sense. He was the #1 WW, just killed Cotto, and fighting a guy who he was a 4-1 favorite against. Why would he feel a need to just start cheating all of assudden? I dont know how long he has been doing it but its definatly been longer then just the Mosley fight. I think it couldve started a number of times. Maybe years ago when he wasnt getting the big fights, he thought that he needed to start killing some guys to make a name for himself. Maybe it was after the Santos loss since he was being so hyped but got derailed and knew that if he didnt beat Clottey then it would be the end of his career. Maybe it was before the Santos fight because he knew that he was going up in weight. Maybe after the Williams loss because he knew that another would basically end his career and that Cotto would be his defining fight. To me its also like a steroid thing in baseball where everyone knows before hand that if they do get caught then the public will assume that they have been doing it for years even if they onld did truly do it once. If this was Margarito's 1st time then I dont feel sorry for people saying that he's been doing it for years because he knew that he ran the risk of people assuming that if he did get caught and he still did it.
One thing that really sticks out in my mind is the end of the Cintron fight. Despite all the good things I said about Margarito being a good guy, if he was cheating at that time then he's a stone cold beatch. I say this because do you guys remember the end of the fight when Cintron was on the ground and Margarito was mocking him and waving for him to get up like he was some big bad man but the whole time he had bricks in his gloves? Then after the final bell ended he ran up to Arum and started begging for Cotto like he's a beast when really he had those bricks all along. That would be the biggest ***** move of all time to me and could never be forgiven. I would just totally lose all respect for him. He basicaly couldve ruined the careers of Cotto & Cintron and slowed the careers of Clottey & Williams. I remember alot of the Margarito fans saying that Williams lost to Quitana because Margarito took it out of him. Maybe he did, with the plaster! I just hope its not true because it changes so many past boxing events and maybe ruined some guys careers while at the same time it puts a huge stain on boxing and this guy was probably the #1 hardcore guy in the sport with fans & media. Now look at him
