The lineal title is worth more because it means he beat the man who beat the man. By definition there can only be one true world champion, and whenever possible that should be the man who beat the man who beat the man. The alphabet belts are just moneymaking scams for the alphabet organisations and they have nothing to do with who is the world champion.

And to say The Ring belt is worth less than the individual alphabet belts is just ignorant. You don't get The Ring belts based on paying a fee for it. It can't be bought. You get it based on either being the lineal champion, or if there isn't a lineal champion, e.g. due to retirement, by the no. 1 contender (as judged by a large panel of highly respected boxing experts who don't work for The Ring) beating the no. 2 contender (or in exceptional circumstances by beating the #3).

Is the ring belt considered as a championship belt?
Winning an alphabet belt does not make you the world champion, because by definition only one boxer can be the world champion at any one time at a given weight.

Beating David Diaz, who no boxing expert rated among the top 5 Lightweights, did not make him the world champion at Lightweight.

I believed David Diaz was ranked #2 by the Ring mag and top 5 by other boxing media.

You might be possibly be right about top 5 but not about #2. They definitely had at least Juan Diaz and Casamayor ahead of him.

                  :
Arum, who said today before a news conference for Saturday night's Shane Mosley-Antonio Margarito welterweight fight at Staples Center that he was confident the fight would still come off, said the issue was not money.

"It's cultural," he said. "And part of this was my fault. I did not tell the Hatton people that you do not give a deadline to a Filipino. When World War II ended, and everybody said it had ended, the Filipinos kept fighting for three more years.

"We have the points. It's a 52-48 split [on the revenue favoring Pacquiao]. It's not that. It's not money.

"It's about respect, or lack of that. Pacquiao's people thought that setting a deadline meant lack of respect. I didn't tell Hatton's people that, and that's my fault." (Hatton is handled by Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions.)

"We do business in the States differently," Arum said. "We yell and holler at each other and then get a deal. For us, it's all about the Benjamins [hundred-dollar bills]. It's different for them, and the deadline disrespected them."

Arum said that, with the time change, he would arrive in the Philippines on Monday and meet with Pacquiao on Tuesday.

I like the bit about world war II.

Casamayor was the Ring champ back then. Juan Diaz dropped in ratings(but still top 5) cuz he lost to Nate Campbell(became #1). David Diaz became #2.

Your memory is obviously better than mine, but what they call #2 is really #3, i.e. it means #2 contender, but #3 ranked fight at the weight.
