    Pound-for-Pound Question

If you retire from boxing as the P4P King such as Mayweather had done then return later to boxing, do you lose your P4P ranking? What happens now? Just wondering... JAT

He returns he gets it back.

He lost it if you ask me.....And luckily P4P is not an Official ranking so my opinion matters. He would have to earn it back IMO.

Depending on how long............and the result of his comeback fight, he gets back to top 1 OR within top 5 or 10.

And also how "weak" the current P4P #1 is. If he comes back there's no way he gets back to TOP 1 with Pacquiao defeating Oscar.

obviously the #1 spot is in question until one or the other loses or has a poor performance.

No, it shouldn't be automatic. It's not out of the question to suggest that layoff of a year + plus may have some type of impact on a fighter and it's up to them to prove otherwise.

See Vitali Klitschko for your answer.. no ranking until AFTER he beat Sam Peter

If Mayweather were to come back today, I might put him at #3, behind Pacquiao and Calzaghe.

He becomes P4P #1 again if he beats any of the following: Margarito, Cotto, Pacquiao, Williams or any decent Middleweight.

There's a difference between a 4-5 year lay off, and a 18 month lay off.
