Bernard Hopkins Needs To Fight Chad Dawson or Retire

If Joe Calzaghe decides to retire and walk away from the sport, Bernard Hopkins should step up and fight a legit light heavyweight like undefeated IBF champion Chad Dawson. [details]

I keep hearing Dawson's name to fight Hopkins. Dawson hasn't done enough to warrant a fight with a legend like B-Hop. IMO a win over Dawson would not significantly add to Hopkins' legacy.

If Calzaghe does retire, Hopkins should fight Taylor and knock him out to set the record straight.

      All of this seems confused.

I say B-Hop takes Dawson to class... I don't think Hopkins has any interest to fight Dawson, due to the simple fact that he see's Chad as the future of LHW div. ..I'm sure Hopkins wouldn't wanna ruin the kid..

Erm, Dawson is re matching Tarver. Hopkins wants his last fight no later than March.

So that's out, and Calzaghe likely too due to the Tarver re match.

Give the both of them a break Mark, jeez.

I agree. If not Calzaghe or Dawson, who exactly should Bernard fight?

Obviously the ideal fight is Calzaghe. But if he's going to retire then there's not much out there for B-Hop.

You say Dawson. Dawson looked ordinary against Glen Johnson. Many say he lost the fight. Now he's beaten an old Tarver. And suddenly, people are calling on B-Hop to fight him!

So for me, the bigger fight would be against Taylor.

Dawson is not Pavlik(who is a good fighter but one dimensional) so lets not take that fight and use it as a measuring stick against Dawson. I think Bernard knows that Dawson is a bad style match up for him, a busy slick fast fighter that throws a lot of punches and is a large light heavyweight. He would pose even more problems than Taylor or Calzaghe did because of his size and the fact that neither of them are consistent body punchers like that.

As for the topic, i agree. There is not any big names for him to fight other than Dawson and the perfect way to go out is on top, and since he just beat Pavlik, that's the perfect way to go out. He should retire.

Hopkins is going for another career defining fight as his last, no need for another young buck (especially one who doesn't have the credentials to make it worthwhile to him), Dawson hasn't done anything to get B-Hop's attention. So he beat two guys Hop already annihilated.. big deal. If Dawson and Cal mixed it up and Chad won, now that could get his attention.. but the chances of that taking place even within next year are likely dismal.
