Pacquiao, Calzaghe, Margarito in Fighter of The Year Race

Great trio to consider. I would have to lean towards Margs as first with Joe C. a strong second. Pac is a an easy third. Might have been different if DLH had been more accomplished his last several fights.

That version of Oscar who averaged 50 punches per round against Pacquiao who threw 585 (73 punches per round)? We all know that Pacman out throws everybody and Oscar's stats were very respectable, the difference is, he was whiffing all night dude, get over it! the fighter of the year for 2008 is none other than floyd mayweather jr. call it what you will, but floyd mayweather was the name on every major fighter's mind, and margarito and pacman won big victories over their competition only to have their mentioned fighting floyd, and you all know it. the fight they need is floyd mayweather to really be considered the best. pacman became p4p number 1 after floyd retired, but even in his dominating win over oscar, floyd's name was brought to the forefront. his name is the biggest thing in boxing right now, and he is the fighter of the year, or at least the nonfighter of the year, because everybody knows, you're not the best until you beat him. throw all that ducking **** out of the window, tony and pac needs floyd to really be called the best if they beat him, which is very highly unlikely. there's a strong possibility that floyd will be the fighter of the year for 2009 also, whether retired or not. love him or hate him, he deserves the title, period. you watch every major ww fight or jr ww fight and some jr jr middleweight fights and oscar, williams, cotto, margorito, pacman, hatton, ect want floyd to claim theyr really beatthe best. kellerman, lampley, steward, merchant all see this. dan rafael and others see this also. they know.

They should award fighter of the year to somebody who's uses steroids!!! Its bad for boxing!!!! But then again this sport is becoming a joke!!!! So, I wouldn't surprised if they do awarded to the steroid tornado!!!!

I see what you're saying. I don't disagree with everything you say but there are certain things that are just not true. Everyone wants to fight Floyd because now, he is the biggest money fight. Before Oscar was beat, he was still the guy everyone wanted. Hatton had him lined up next, Margarito did everything he could to fight him after the Cotto fight, and Cotto was also in line to do it before he lost to Margarito. Does that mean Oscar was the best boxer around and everyone wanted to prove they were better? No, everyone wanted to cash in.

Now, guess what, Floyd is the guy who can make the mega-money fight as long as he has the right dance partner. Before December 6th 2008 most of these guys had stopped giving two ****s about what Floyd was doing, but the Cash cow got slaughtered and Floyd is next in line.

Now the criticism of floyd comes in here. I am a Floyd fan, but more of a boxing fan than Floyd. Look up my posts, I've been here since 04 and have basically picked him in all his fights, even if I wasn't rooting for him in a few of them. Since he left the lightweight division he began taking some fights that made a lot of sense financially, but not for boxing, and he did that for the last few years of his career, really limiting his overall accomplishments as an all time great, never taking those great risks or a fight where people (who weren't just fans of the other guy) could say, wow Floyd might lose this one. And it's not just because there was nobody out there because people wanted to see him fight Margarito, or Cotto, or Williams, but he never did it, and never will.

Now Pacquiao wants him, and wants him to come back to make big money, great, it will be a great fight and Pacquiao is a warrior, but he's not going to beat Mayweather, and those of us who really follow the sport and haven't fallen in love with pacquiao know that. I personally just wish he would come back and deal with the welters, and if he did, he'd be an all time great not just skill wise, but accomplishment wise too, how is that hating?
