Where did i ever discredit Marg's win in this thread? The thread topic had nothing to do with him earning, or not earning his win over Cotto. I merely asked a simple question regarding his chin.[/QUOTE]

It's just a weird question. Where would Cotto be without that natural left hook? It's impossible to take naturally given abilities out of the equation. I know what you mean that chin doesn't usually count as a skill, but it's essentially the same thing as talking about Speed etc...

And I didn't really mean this thread was taking credit away from Margs' win, I just kind of jumbled everything together there at the end.

Thats the thing. Im sure Cotto wasnt born with natural left hook punching ability. He honed that skill in the gym. He perfected the punch. Now i know u can learn how to take a punch, but there is no way that you can control the damage that is inflicted by a punch that lands flush. If u have a weak chin, then that's what it is.

Do u still think he will be here today?
Yeah, try to take Floyd's Speed too! Do you think he would have a perfect record?

Roy actually tried to train his chin for the ruiz fight... he fought bigger guys and purposely got hit, cuz he knew it could happen in the fight... and it did.

Yes Floyd has natural speed, but he also worked on being even faster. If your brain/equilibrium cant deal with being hit flush, then how do u work on that?

His ability to throw punches from all angles is a part of great boxing ability. His superb conditioning is a part of his great boxing ability. His ability to throw more punches than his opponent is a part of his great boxing ability.

Sometimes people make it seem that Tony is just some caveman with a club.

Margarito outclassed Cotto for the last half of the fight and made Miguel look like an absolute fool.
I'm sorry man but that's 100% bull****. He wouldn't have that "ring generalship" if it wasn't for his chin. He wouldn't drag fighters into his kind of fight if he didn't have the chin to withstand punishment while hes throwing his punches. And it's not like hes always bob and weaving or putting his hands up all the time while he's comming forward. Anybody can throw punches from all angles if they can take missles to the face while there doing it. His conditioning i don't consider a boxing ablity just a asset. He's just in great shape. Like i said before, he can only throw so many punches cause he can takes constant punishment to the face and not be fazzed by it. I do think Tony is just some caveman with a club. Margarito in no way out-classed Cotto, he just out-willed him, just took punishment and gave it back twice as hard, in no way was Cotto made into a fool. He didn't jab, move, made Cotto miss punches badly [that's out-classing a guy]. I'm not taking anything away from Margarito at all - he won fair and square and beat Cotto, but if it wasn't for that CHIN, he's not even THOUGHT of right now. But for his sake, he does, so yep.

You can't work on it, but it's hard to speculate what kind of fighter he would be like if he couldn't take a punch like he does. And left hooks like Cotto's, DLH's, Trinidad's...they hone them, but they are largely natural. Everyone has talents that are god given, Tony's is his godly ability to take a punch. But his conditioning helps with that too. We all saw how when Cotto was weight drained it affected how he took punches. Tony is a big guy, cutting to 147 can't be that easy for him, but he never gets rattled and never tires out. Some of that has to do with how he prepares.
