“Fighting Words??Manny Pacquiao Slays The Golden Calf

by David P. Greisman - Oscar De La Hoya’s friends, those boxers and businessmen, those promoters and professionals, sat in the few ringside rows, hushed, stunned, certain that he who was once Golden would soon only be gone.

Manny Pacquiao’s fans in the stands rose from their seats to their feet, aware, from a distance, that the moment was close. Expectation begot exhilaration, exclamation, a collective roar for he who would continue to be their conquering hero.

Thirty minutes of emotion gave way to 60 seconds of catharsis.

There sat De La Hoya, framed by a red corner and red ropes to match the markings on his cheeks. Above those, his eyes wandered from person to person, like a newborn in unfamiliar surroundings, glancing toward the anticipatory murmurs coming from the crowd, looking at the physician, the referee and his trainer, all speaking of that which was to be the end.

Beyond the heaving of his chest as he caught his breath, De La Hoya was motionless. Between, beyond the one-word responses, he was speechless.

He was overwhelmed. He was over.

What would have been a bell to restart the action was instead clanging that signaled the conclusion. De La Hoya rose from his stool and trudged, gloves at his side, toward the man who walked on clouds, whose hands were now raised in the air.

“You’re still my idol, whatever happens,?Pacquiao said before De La Hoya left the ring, ceding the stage, the spotlight. [details]

DLH needed to be put out to pasture or retire if he wasn't gonna fight top WW's or SWW's. I'm happy I can go back to respectin him now cuz the whole 'Dream Fight' thing was makin me sick til Pac lit his ass up on fight nite. Looks like Pac is the golden calf now. He deserves it cuz he don't back down from challenges.

Finally Told like it is, "Hand picked opponents" All about the money while making believe its about legacy, not fighting fighters as an excuse making believe its about the money...Finally its put out there ,how did he give Trinidad 40% on his first fight(which is ok) but then turn around and say no to a 50/50 split and offer 30% on the second fight , when Hoya is already the richest fighter/promoter in the business. It wasnt about the money he knew that all the pressure of being macho against Trinidad would have made him have to trade with Trinidad or run for his life again and he would have been knocked out...because he didnt even have the legs to do what he did the first time. He had alot of people fooled but never me.

this is why the public doesnt hear to much about boxing these days, the sports casters on espn and other networks like fsn dont know s**t about the sport and when they do try to mention the sport they end up sounding like dip s**ts, thats why they can talk about mma, anybody can have something to say about two people pretty much street fighting and sound like they know whats going on lol :****you:

I never really liked Pac-Man. However I have to give the little man credit for what he did Saturday night!! DLH is shot and should retire and what killed him in my opinion was the weight loss. He should have just fought a Margarito or a Cotto and still stayed at 155/158 pounds in which he has more power. I tell you it was painful to see DLH get beat down that bad, I have always admire DLH’s work ethic and everything else he has accomplished and not to mention his money empire “Golden Boy Promotions? However the other thing that was swelled up as bad as DLH face was his wallet.
