The Manny Pacquiao weight issue is true but overblown

De La Hoya is clearly the bigger man in this fight, but why do people on these forums insist on exaggerating it so with misleading numbers? Yes, Pacman started his career at light flyweight, 108, but he was also sixteen years old. He was a boy. At 20, when he stopped being a damn kid, he was fighting at 122. At 20 Oscar won a title at 130.

Oscar is clearly bigger. I am not denying that. He has to kill himself to make 147, Manny probably won't even bother weighing that high. Yet, if you use your brain to actually look into the numbers instead of glancing at boxrec, you'll see that it is a hint closer than you'd first expect. I just can't see Oscar blowing a Manny out in a few rounds just because of size.

I get what your saying... but at the same time giving up 10+ lbs on fight night is a huge disadvantage especially in the lower weight classes. Guys that are elite at 140 struggle at 147 and that's only 7 lbs.

weight is such a huge factor that it's not an overexaggeration... it's just true

I must say that I agree with u 100%.. i think DLh wins because of his height, reach, and style. Morales gave Pacquaio trouble with his technical skills in their first fight, Marquez gave Pacquaio trouble in both of their fights, and now you have a taller, harder punching guy in their with Pacquiao.. I agree that the weight works better for MP then ODLH

obviously here the issue its not the weight alone, Oscar is not the same size as Pacquiao and just ate burgers to weight more...:P Issue here is weight, Height, Size, all translating in power as well!

I agree with the OPs premise. I've been saying this for a while, too. Anyone remember how hard Oscar had it against Forbes? Is anyone here ready to tell me that Pac isn't 10x better than Forbes is right now?

Oscar will probably come out swinging for the fences in the first 3-4 rounds and will end up gassing himself. DLH can't fight 12 rounds after killing himself to make 147, there is just no way in hell. Manny's youth, southpaw stance, and speed will prove to be a nightmare for Oscar in the middle and late rounds. I expect Manny to come out and win the first round, lose 3-4 rounds in a row, and then pretty much win going down the stretch.

Pac 116-112 on two cards (with the third going for DLH in a Vegas fight where he always seems to win over one judge).

I believe size matters in this fight. I think Manny has a great chin, but he did get buzzed by Morales a few times and the same goes for Marquez. Those great warriors do not have the pop that De La Hoya has. Pacman's offense is not going to allow him to be a slick defensive fighter that allowed Mayweather to gain an edge. Oscar has a solid chin and I can't see Pac hurting him. We will see.... footnote.... I was wrong on Pavlik and Hopkins.... fun being a fan!

Size is somewhat of an issue, but Pacman isnt anyone. He is the best fighter in the world.
PBF had a disadvantage you could say against DLH as well. But PBF was the best in the world so overcame it. Same thing for Pac.
No reason to say DLH will blow Pac out in 2 rounds. Considering DLH dont blow anyone out that fast.
I hope i dont eat my last words.

I must admit my initial reaction to hearing this fight announced was please pac is going to get startched. I didn't even ponder a possibility of Pacman win. I am not far off still, but at least I am doubtful enough that I am excited to see what happens. It could fizzle. Case in point.... fights I expected to wow me... Juan Manual Lopez vs. Daniel Ponce DeLeon, Leonard Dorin vs. Arturo Gatti, (insert your own), etc. Left you saying huh? Either way I am anxious for the fight!
P.S. If you are a fight fan... at some point you get to eat your words!

Pac practically jumped 3 weight divisions. He only had 1 lightweight fight!
Can you imagine jumping 3 weight classes and fighting a legend who had an enourmous success in that weightclass?
