Nice to see this bigfight in NYC, I don't like the fact almost every big fight has to be in Vegas.

Top rank really wants Cotto to win huh?
Given the fact that Margarito was actually the challenger in their first fight and they held the fight in a venue more neutral (if not more favorable to margarito) i dont think its out of the question to fight in NY when cotto is the challenger...

especially given the fact that its a very good venue for the fight.

      why?

Its Cotto country...its like his second home.

Therefore it would sell tickets...and make them BOTH money.

if this was fought in ohio (for example; someplace not favorable to either) it would sell less tickets...

if this takes place in California (margarito country) or New York (Cotto country) it will have the best chance to sell the most tickets...

nothing wrong with good strategy by top rank.

With the fight in NY for example.....would it sell more PPVs than the 1st fight??

          its possible...

especially now since HBO can use 24/7 for it...

the first fight provided enough drama and excitement (especially how the tide turned into margarito's favor after the 6/7th round where cotto had dominated the first half of the fight; etc.) that 24/7 will be used to show how great the first fight was and how great the next will be.

its not like it was a 12 round jab-a-thon...you saw cotto put on an EXCELLENT boxing performance for 7 rounds and then you see margarito come back and it turns into a war down the stretch.

with a 24/7 I say it has the potential to do just as well or better than the first one.

they should also do like last time and have cotto and margarito have tune ups on the same card (or on the same night on HBO like they did for the gatti/gomez fight and williams/margarito)...

it would amp the fight even more.

Thats a good idea. Give Cotto a matchup with Clottey.

How is Las Vegas a "neutral" site when there is a very small Rican population here and lots of Mexicans?
Despite that Cotto still managed to pull a large crowed.
It's not his fault though that Margarito couldn't bring more of his fans out.

BTW, Mexicans are the third largest minority in New York. The only other latinos who are bigger in New York are Ricans and Dominicans.

what are you talking about? that place was at least 8-2 in favor of marg. And there was very few actual puerto ricans there.

                      Cotto would lose to Clottey.
