Freddie Roach said about the same thing about B-Hop after the Calzaghe fight. But he's right. RJ is not nearly as tecnically sound as B-Hop, and speed does not return. B-Hop would win easier than against Pavlik.

As for Bernard's comments- extremely classy. The camaraderie that exists between boxers, even though who have been foes in the past, is kinda beautiful and humbling. Only other boxers know what they go through, we're just mere watchers...
Sorry. Yeah dap is like a fist bump.

This is the thing in boxing. When you beat someone in a boxing match it is only fact that you were better on the night. All those years back RJJ was the better man on the night. If they fought now, Bh would be the better man on the day.
RJJ might have been at his best on the night he beat BH. All those years ago, BH might not have been at his best.

Its so subjective boxing. Would Bh at his best beat RJJ at his best? We will never know for sure. Just like we dont know if a young RJJ and BH would beat JC at his best.

BHop said it as well as can be said. The reason BHop is still around and fighting so well is because of his technical ability and a defense that consists of something more than just putting on the earmuffs. It's not like RJJ needs the money anymore, he should retire and focus on promoting.

Turn that frown upside down, main. He going out with $$$ to keep him secure the rest of his days. Only way you got to be sad about is if Roy fight on and get his ass more hurt when he got nothing left to fight with.

                He still that Superman. Trust.

And you still got that career set to watch back so many times as you want.

Roy have had a great career and made multiple history. He ain't want to see you mourn, only celebrate.

                  Spoken like a true legend.

Bernard we know is all about the basics. Even his slick style is taylored to the basics. His guard is always up, his defense is superb and his mind is sharp. These skills overshadow the facts that Bernard is not particularly fast because he's smart, he knows when to do what he needs to do and that gives the illusion (aganst Pavlik) that he was faster. He moves alot and is able to take the other boxers strength away. This allows him to look superb against someone who is seemingly unable to do much of anything. And it's all because bernard is still a student of the game.
Roy Jones Jr. was a gifted athlete and like many gifted athletes they believe they can do anything at any time and this is never true. Bernard stated it perfectly when he said, he never learned the basics. His gift of perception and his physical gift of execution allowed him to bypass a major portion of the steps most people must go through to become a contender.
I think the people in Roy's corner are a bunch of "Yes" men and don't give him the truth. I'm sure Roy's training regimen hasn't changed at all and being that he doesn't physically possess his physical and mental gifts of yesteryear, his training too must be adjusted. Boxing like anything else is preservation first.
There are only a couple of people who are able to absorb punishment and not be affected by it. Namely Antonio Margarito and Baldomir. The rest of us must protect ourselves at all times and protection includes a strong and intelligent offense. Roy used to enjoy being on the ropes, watch the guy throw a few punches, he get off the ropes when he felt like it and then go to work. It allowed the other guy to feel like he was doing something and when the crowd got into it, roy would put several combinations to let the crowd know he was in control.
Today, Roy simply has very little to offer to the elite in boxing. Felix Trinidad looked like a guy who had been out of boxing for three years and after the destruction by Bernard Hopkins, it was clear to see his simple style of boxing. This was no great feat by Roy. It was expected being the bigger and more gifted athlete.
I would hope Roy Jones take into consideration that he still has a lot to offer to the world of boxing. He has wisdom and a promotional team. His mind is still clear and he can lend his ego to the up and coming fighters which will entertain us in the years to come.
I hope he looks at his performance and realizes that he did, "Give it all I've got." Yet came up short. This is to take nothing away from Roy. He's entertained us for many, many years. Let's look to the future Roy. Put some good fights together. There is plenty of money to be made in the world of good Promotion. Breaking away from boxing is not going to be easy. The money is phenomenal and the accolades are just as alluring. Yet, your body and health, once taken away can never be replaced by all the cheering in the world. Give us something new to cheer about Roy. And that's a night of SquareRing action that will not soon be forgotten.
Lastly, I would like to say to you Roy Jones, "Thank You" for all that you've done for boxing. You are not washed up, you are simply moving on to bigger and better things. I look forward to seeing you in the second phase of your life. Promoter extrodinair.

Unfortunately he is The Jordan that played for the Wizards not the Bulls.
Riy only foguth and beat B hop once sir. If you saw the fight Satuday night and you think the Roy that fought that fight could beat the B Hop that fought Pavlik a few weeks ago then you must have had your beer goggles on. Roy was lucky to have dropped Joe in the 1st with that forearm/Left Hook besides that and maybe a few other upperscuts there wasn't much that Roy landed cleanly. I have respect for Roy for hanging in there but I don't think he could beat Hopkins. it might not look as bad against Hopkins cause B Hop don't throw alot of punches like Joe Calzaghe but B hop might give him the same drubbing he gave Pavli. At this point in B Hops career and I mean if he plans on retiring end of 2009 so 1 or 2 more fights I think fighting Roy is pointless....Lefty
