Is there anything left for Calzaghe to prove?

I would like to see him fight Chad Dawson. After that only a possible rematch with Hopkins makes sense. Joe was good last night and put on a good show, but at the same time you wish he could have fought these guys back when they were in their primes and not past it.

Joe certainly has the talent and ability to be a true ATG but he's missed the boat. Once he'd wupped Eubank he should have had the big fights but a combination of lack of confidence, bad hands and wanker warren put paid to that. Now Joe has grown in confidence and stature it's all too late for him. There isn't a legacy fight out there for him, beating B Hop again won't give him that and neither would beating Dawson. Despite lacking real power I think he could and should be remembered as a true great but he lost the chance to prove it and there is nobody around now that will allow him to change it.
i agree, joe missed the ATG boat by waiting for bhop and rjj to become too old. Joe should've beaten them in their primes and when they were on a tear through their divisions. that would've been truly impressive. to date there are still questions. he needs to fight some good fighters in their primes. he's beaten them all at 168, but dawson is a very good true light HW in a very shallow division.

after bhop dismantled pavlik, if calz were to beat hopkins convincingly, that'd be good for his resume too.

he did not do all he could. he could've fought these guys at their bests. his fights with bhop and rjj both have asterisks.

he still has a little more to prove. if he beat dawson, he'd have effectively cleaned out the lt HW division imho. I will be forced to admit calzaghe's greatness if he whupped dawson.

No. He have done, what he needs to do.!!!!!!!

Why all this hate for Joe? He is one of the best, he beat the best, so what he needs to prove. This Dawson bull**** is going overboard, is like saying that Floyd is no a ATG because he didnt fought Berto, before retireing. This is getting ridiculous. Joe haters are trying to find and excuse, and the worst one is that he fought 2 old guys, well guess what? he is old too and past his prime, he is 37 for crying out loud!!!! People act like he is 26, and in his prime. Joe deserves a lot of respect, and when he wanted to fight, Roy and B-Hop back in the day, they didnt want to. Even Roy said that there was bigger fights in the States than fighting Joe, so enough with the fighting a prime roy or B-Hop wich in my opinion wasnt as good as now!!! Joe is one of the best of his era, sadly that people here in America doesnt repect him as he deserve!!!!!

A fight between Calzaghe and Haye makes more sense if you keep thinking about it long enough.

Why not? Joe could make the weight! Haye has done it before and could do it again?

None of the fighters would have fought Joe 5 or 6 years ago TBH, He wasnt really a big-name at that time....they probably would have given him the chance to fight them.

I think that a fighter can always prove more. Even someone like Sugar Ray Robinson...if he had beaten Maxim, it would've proven something and enhanced his legacy to an even higher level.

That's not to say that SRR needed to beat Maxim to be considered the greatest, or that he should be criticised for losing, obviously. But a win against a very tough opponent always looks good on your resume.

Right now, we don't know for sure that Calzaghe would beat Dawson, or Hopkins in a rematch. Beating them in a clear manner that left no room for debate would be impressive.
