Joe Calzaghe: Fighter of the Year

    What you all think?

He beat two American legends back to back on the biggest of American stages; Thomas & Mack Center, Las Vegas, NV & Madison Sqaure Garden, NY, NY.

    Bernard Hopkins

    Roy Jones Jr.

He came back dramatically from two 1st round knock downs to win both fights.

    He maintained his undefeated record.

I'm sold on Joe. He's the man.

    I agree 100%.

It should be Joe, unless Pacquiao KOs De La Hoya.

A gift decision against Bernard Hopkins and a completely one sided beatdown of a 5 years past prime Jones hardly makes for a Fighter of the Year candidate.

Antonio Margarito, Juan Manuel Marquez, Israel Vazquez, and Manny Pacquiao (assuming he beats Oscar) are much more worthy of the nod.

The way he beat Jones though, he dominated him. And seeing Hopkins whoop on Kelly made Joe's win over him that much more significant.

He did it on their home turf. I like to hate on Joe, but he's answered all questions for me. He can scrap. It'll be up to Manny, we'll just have to wait & see.

With Mijares losing unexpectedly there are now several front runners. Obviously if Pacquiao somehow wins it will be him.

imho cal should be their for consideration but not on top, probably among the front runners...

cal's win over hopkins should receive full credit, as hops shown he still threat with a dominating win over pav...

but the win over rjj is really next to nothing, probably as much credit odlh will get if he beats pac...

Antonio Tarver and Glenn Johnson dominated Roy years ago and I didn't see anybody rushing to name them fighter of the year.

You can make an argument for Joe certainly, but if Manny beats Oscar you'll be arguing a moot point. Crushing Diaz at his 135 debut (even though Diaz was the weakest title holder) and moving up to 147 and beating Oscar would be damn near impossible to top.

i was thinking Calzaghe would get the nod for this, and although Hopkins was a gift and Jones is super washed, he still beat them. he is definately a contender

Glenn Johnson in fact was The Ring Fighter of the Year for 2004.

You know, all your hatred for Calzaghe is really, really ******.

I give him credit for both the Hopkins fight was close, but Jones hasn't had a great performance in 5 years.
