While I would lov for this fight to happen, I think this is just all talk. Berto would get destroyed by Cotto.

Wow!!! this fight would be bigger than you all imagine!! Ray Leonard vs Marvin Hagler material! Cotto is a gut buster and Berto has crisp damaging combinations. Cotto has the experience on his side and he uses the ring better. Berto is extremely accurate and is faster.. Both have power in both hands... Both wear and break down opponents... Both have endurance... Either can knock the other out Cold... They both need a big win... And best of all, they both come into the ring with war on their minds.. No slapfest. This would be the best pure matchup since DLH vs Trinidad or DLH vs Mosley. Lets face it.. Berto is already a smart boxer-fighter and is in his early prime as well (meaning he can't really get too much better than he already is at 23-0 with 19ko's). Cotto lost but you could tell by the way he left the ring that he was already hungry to come back and punish someone for the crime of taking his title. He is pissed off and motivated. Boxing at its best. The opponents will change but the fighters are what they are.. the media tries to declare readiness in sports but the media doesn't train in a gym for 12 hours 6 days a week.. Berto and Cotto do. They determine the outcome. As for a prediction.. i'll steer clear of that. I honestly don't think anyone can predict the outcome of this one.

Props to both fighters for taking good fights.

One thing I don't think though, I think Berto's power is deceiving. He's a big muscular guy and and I've seen him throw what look like bombs on guys and they don't get remotely phased. I'm worried about one of those uppercuts busting Cotto's nose up again. Throughout his career he has always showed that he's vulnerable to uppercuts, and that's Berto's best punch. I think that's the key to the fight. If Cotto uses his head and studies his opponent(He openly states he doesn't watch film, which really pisses me off) he can hopefully learn how to neutralize that uppercut.

Hopefully the Marg knockout humbled Cotto enough to make him realize he needs to study his opponent more and he cant just assume he's better than his opponent. I would love to see him with a different trainer, Evangilista seems just as stubborn as Miguel.

          Excellent Post!
On regards to Berto not getting better, consider this:
Berto's only 3 years into his pro career. Although people hate hearing that a WBC champ is still a student, fact is, at age 25 he still has time for cultivating his ability. He just went 12 rounds for the 1st time in his career! I just posted about this yesterday.
Lennox Lewis said something about Andre Berto earlier in his career. He said he was glad that they weren't throwing Andre to the 'wolves' so quickly JUST BECAUSE he beat a certain level of opposition. It takes a variety of adversaries in each level to polish up in preparation for taking the next step up. And I agree with that.
The thing is, he's on a fast track taking 4+ fights a year!
If I was in his corner, I'd take him through Zab & Collazo next. Wait till the early 09 welterweight dust settles, and choose an opponent afterwards (mid-late 09). His team will easily find another top ww that's on the decline then.

Margarito exposed what, exactly? That Cotto boxed his face off for more than half the fight, but forgot to clinch and therefore took too many shots to the body, thus wearing him down? It was a mental error. There was no exposure. Cotto is clearly the more gifted fighter, who got in the ring with an incomplete plan against a guy who should be fighting at 154. Very few adjustments will be needed for Cotto to take the rematch. It will happen.

How do you know who's "self" Cotto is right now? He didn't even have an expression of self-destruction immediately following the fight with Margarito. The man wants to be a champ and one of the best WW's of all-time. One loss against a quality opponent doesn't diminish that hope.

i think Cotto gets buzzed a lot but not really hurt he has been in their with some good punchers like Shane,Pinto, etc and he did win those fights against Torres and Corley

Marg is a 154lbs fighter and he broke Cotto down more than anything
Bingo. It wasn't any one punch that did it to Cotto. He simply failed to clinch, or apply pressure following his combinations and his body got rocked against the ropes. He is the most skilled boxer at 147.

Plus coming off a loss and wanting to stay on that track he was on , I would bet he comes in in very good shape and would try to frustrate Berto which he would probably do very easy. I think Steve Forbes is great but they tryin to tell me that Berto is a tier 1 prospect with really heavy hands and good speed and he can't find this guy. I dunno I have been impressed by him but I have always been more like Jesus this guy is taking forever to get in a groove and against the top fighters that won't fly....I actually pick Cotto and hope the fight happens now. Cotto also gets respect for taking a good fight jesu he took a horrible beating and his blood actually splattered on the camera for god sake he could have easily marched a bum out there for a pick me up and nobody would have been that upset.
I agree with everything you just said sir. I had watched a few of Berto's previous fights and I thought he was the next best thing since sliced bread. After seeing him in there with Forbes i still think he has potential but in the same breath he is not ready for a fighter like Cotto Berto will get hit to the body and the speed he has will be a non factor. Cotto will buckle him and he will either quit on his stool or fall. Mid round ko 6-8

This is the best style match you can make on paper in the division. One of the best ones you can make in the sport, now that we've seen what Margarito/Cotto looks like. I'm interested to see how Cotto will deal with Berto's explosiveness. That uppercut/right hand combo is nasty.

Berto could stop Cotto, he has been hurt so much times and also he could never be the same after Margarito

                      Berto Sd or Late stoppage
