That's when I stopped reading and the bold is what makes this article JUNK.
I am sorry for the author but it is irresponsible to write bull**** like that. Hopkins belt was a strap, not THE championship belt. He won a vacant belt fighting Marcado, after failing to conquer the same belt fighting Jones. That is not the begeinning of a reign.
Hopkins became THE champ when he beat Tito or when he beat Keith Holmes. Hence he made 6-7 defenses of the middleweight crown.
Also, didnt Joe Calzaghe just equalled this unparalleled achievement with his wbo 168 trinket? And Calzaghe did not even lose his belts, he vacated them to move up.
Hopkins doesnt need stories like this made up to be a great.
EDIT: I went on reading, the rest of the article is very interesting, but the quote above is still irresponsible bull****.
A lot of people say De La Hoya was the champion in 6 different weight divisions and that Roy Jones was the heavyweight champion which is not really true...

Great read.
Hopkins keeps talking about prison its cool if he was giving speaching at a school or at the end he'd send a message to kids. But he's talking about prison like he's glamorizing it which makes me think it wasn't as tough as he'd like to make it out to be.
Jesus Chavez went to prison too and i don't hear him talking about prison like i do Hopkins. And true there both differnt personalities but they both done hard times and one unlike the other keeps talking about prison like its fun, which im sure its not.
Pavlik has to use that jab to set everything up and he wins easy.

A lot of people say a lot of things, but this is an article not a post by a moron. Stewart knows a ton about boxing, I tend to believe he is guilty here. I would believe him if he said otherwise though.

Natas 206 instead of giving me bad k because "if you cannot recognize 20 title defenses as being great and that hops WAS THE MAN all those years, then just quit posting"
Come out and back it up... Let's hear it
Learn to read... I NEVER said Hopkins was not great, not just in this thread, but EVER in general.
Convince me that Hopkins was the man... Best MW? sure (also because Toney, Jones, Nunn, Eubank all moved up to by then) THE man? No FU+KIN way, he didnt beat the man, he didnt unify until Holmes/Trinidad so no way, he won a vacant belt... get your facts straight instead of acting all emotional.

And calzaghe? why even mention his name, the guy held onto a single belt for 10 years before taking a challenge in lacy.
And plus, I gave you red k cuz your negative nancy ass didn't even read the article and went on a rant because you missed the entire point of the article. Next time, read it in it's entirety please (I know its difficult for you but please try)Last edited by ИATAS; 10-18-2008, 12:33 PM.

I already said was the best MW, in fact i probably knew it before you, he certainly did not look like that against Jones or Marcado the 1st time around.
You are discrediting a legend making up bull**** to justify his greatness...
The man is the champ, not someone who holds a random piece of alphabet. Tito was not the man, Holmes was not the man. Toney beat Nunn and vacated. There was no champ in the division until Hopkins unified. NOt until Hopkins beat Marcado for a vacant belt.
(to give you an example Tito was not THE champ at welter until he "beat" Oscar, before that, he had a piece of paper which he defended many times)
Sorry but Calzaghe's reign is not very different from Hopkins', they are both excellent fighters, and their greatness has nothing to do with their ridiculous "records".
