lets get 1 thing straight.....pavlik is NOT ko'ing b-hop, no way, no how. so starting fast, thinking you're going to overwhelm him early and take him out is ridiculous. pavliks best bet is to work off his jab. fight smart. a hopkins KO will NEVER happen. pavlik has some really nice pop, but he's not the biggest puncher hopkins has ever faced, and he damn sure aint the fastest..........we'll see how it goes down fight night, but

I WILL BET ALL MY POINTS, HOPKINS WILL NOT BE KO'ed. just no way possible....

hopkins has a better chance of ko'ing pavlik, then pavlik does against him. i've seen pavlik hurt in the second round against JT. when was the last time u seen hopkins HURT, or knocked down?

Like i said, ppl are getting too crazy, i'll bet all my points pavlik wont stop bernard...i dont care if he's 50......get at me!!!!

First of all, don't say it CAN'T happen. Tyson fans thought the same thing before the Douglas fight and RJJ fans thought the same thing before the Tarver rematch. (shed's a tear)
Pavlik is NOT going to tire from his consistant workrate. Hopkins, as seen in the JC fight, had NOTHING in the later rounds. Kelly just needs to do, as I said, what he has been doing thus far. Basically, IMO, this will be the JC fight but with ALOT more power punches. Hop's best bet is to try and shock him early because if it get's beyond 7, I don't give Hop ANY chance at winning. Oh, and for the record, Hop is the one with the lower % of a chance to get the KO, not the other way around.

It is not impossible to hurt Hopkins, Mercado proved that much. Kelly is banking on wearing Hopkins out by making him work hard early, then having him fade. When you think about it that is the way Kelly always fights. He does not starch guys out, he beats them up until they have nothing left and then he pounces. Will it work against B-hop? Who knows. Kelly will try though as it is in his nature. He wants blood, it is the way he fights and the only way he knows. He will have to be very careful early in the fight though as Hopkins will oblige him and will use every tactic in the book to throw Kelly off his game.

Expect Kelly to suffer his first serious cut in this fight. Kelly will get ****** up. I do think he will win though.

What will Pavlik do when he doesn't have a jab to set up his right hand or his combos ?? Will he have a plan B ?? how will he deal with Hopkins roughhouse tactics on the inside and the sneaky fast right hand. How will he deal with missing punch after punch and getting countered.

This will all be answered on fight night. You have to give respect to Pavlik for taking a fight like this. Hopkins is a big risk at this stage of his career and a win (especially a tko win which we know won't happen ) would be good for his resume.

If i was Pavlik i would wait till the middle late rounds to test bhop but at the early stages thats when bhop is his most dangerous.

I can't wait for this fight.

The Mercado knockdowns were back in 1994 where Hopkins was not as skilled defensively and was not as intelligent. You have to include that Hopkins didn't give himself enough time to get used to the altitude in ecuador.

first of all, i like pavlik, but he's no joe calzaghe in terms of work rate. he's not nearly as fast, and the majority of his punches hopkins will see coming....

when has hopkins been beaten up? how long ago was that mercado fight ur referencing?

mike tyson is no hopkins, so that comparison is moot.....tyson got starched b/c he overlooked buster, when has hopkins come into a fight unfocused, or underprepared? that's the difference.

im not saying kelly wont win. in fact, it'd be pretty hard to argue him not being the heavy favorite. but my point is, dont come in & plan on being able to do things to a fighter that no one (in recent memory; i.e the last 10 yrs at least) has been able to do.....while he is old, hopkins still has a chance to pull this fight out.....while he gassed out against zags, many ppl still believe he won that fight.......

i kno ppl say "never say never.........." BUT im saying NEVER. if pavlik wins, & im still saying IF, it'll be by decision.

i said i'll bet the rest of my points ti any1 who thinks, seriously thinks, pavlik is gonna knock this guy out.....get at me!!!

I hope, as he says, he does completely the opposite. I hope from the first bell till it's over, Pav takes control of every round and does his usual high output with plenty of power. Yes, his "dirty" tactics may take some toll, but I think Pav's camp will be expecting that and pointing it out often. Hop is TOO OLD to think he is the fighter he once was. YES, he can still fight. YES, he can still compete at a high level - BUT NO can you expect him to go in there and look anything more than he did against JC. He just DOESN'T have it in his body anymore as we saw. If Pav let's him take the first 4-5 rounds, he will be fighting Hops fight from there on out giving the experience edge to Hop and leaving himself a full count looking for the homerun. If Pav starts early and is consistant, the only way Hop CAN win, is to get in there and trade, and that's where Pav says, goodnight.

                Good analysis Dean.

I can see the veteran pulling every one of his tricks to tie Kelly up, and he'll frustrate him with slick counters I'm sure too. He can be 'slippery'.

But Kelly has much more than just punching power. He comes in with CLEVER gameplans & tactics. I still can't get over how well he executed his 'Miranda-gameplan'. Making Edi walk backwards cause Kelly knew it was unfamiliar to him.
Also, Kelly's coming off a hard fight, which adds alot to resilience.
Did you see the anxiety in his eyes when he got back to his corner after round 10 & 11 against Taylor? He looked liked he reached his limit, but pushed past it! He's ready for ALOT if not ALL adversity in the ring!

Trying to get to bhop early isn't the best idea.

If Pavlik tries coming forward early throwing recklessly he will get hit with right hands and miss very often possibly tiring himself later in the fight, No matter who you are missing punches often takes the stamina out of you.

Hopkins argueably beating Calzaghe says he still has what it takes to beat Pavlik.

Not majorly surprising from Pavlik, basically try to do the same as Calzaghe, only he can't box as well. Genius, original, insightful tactics Kelly lol. He should tire Hopkins, would be interesting to see what his game plan would be to counter this, with someone of Pavliks style.

"Hopkins returns from an April loss to Joe Calzaghe. Some observors felt Hopkins did enough to deserve the decision"

Can't you say that of every fight, that some observors felt the guy who lost won? Wouldn't only be worthwhile mentioning if it was a majority and a substantial amount of folk within the game thought this?
