Andre Berto - "I am The Best Welterweight"

Yea, Berto looked great in the ring this past Saturday.
I was amazed how much of a difference it made having Floyd Sr as Steve's trainer. I've never seen Forbes look so good! Up until he stopped believing in himself that is. You could see high morale for having Floyd in his corner, and it was obvious to see Floyd's training written all over the way he was moving.
Berto said he felt like if he made ANY mistakes, Forbes would capitalize on it. So I can understand why the knock out didn't come. I was hoping he'd be the first to stop Forbes, but I think he needed a long distance fight more than he did another knock out anyway, you know? EXCELLENT experience for Berto!!
Yea, He feels he's the best welterweight, and after I read that, I KNEW everyone on this forum would get on him for saying that. But alot of people aren't seeing the big picture.
Berto's ALWAYS had a realistic view of himself, which is rare for boxers. Usually boxer's pride far outweighs his skills, but notice how it was only till just recently that he finally felt he's ready for the top ww's.
The same people who complain that Berto should step up his competition are the same people who are complaining about Berto's recent statement about being the best.
IDIOTS!!!!! stop and think!!!! HE HAS TO BELIEVE HE'S THE BEST IN ORDER TO COMPETE WITH THE BEST!!!!!
This is just the first step towards seeing him in the ring with the elite.
He FINALLY feels ready for the top ww's, and he just proved he's got the lungs to make it to the end of 12 rounds with power, speed, and good performance.
Let everyone complain about Berto not facing Marg, or Will while having a belt. He's headed their way eventually. But I'd rather hold off just a few more fights to see a 100% ready undefeated Berto against those 2, instead of a Berto who was broadsided because he didn't make his final tweaks.
Even Lennox said it in one of Berto's past fights. He said, he was "glad to see that a guy like Berto who started his career in 2004 wasn't facing the best JUST because he beat some great guys. It takes time, and a variety of opposition."
And for the people who enjoy complaining more than they enjoy the sport of boxing. For the sake of seeing fireworks in the ring, have a little patience with Berto. He's coming at the PERFECT time!

Berto is making statements way over his head. When he decides to face a legit elite fighter he can make that claim. I don't doubt he can, but now his statements don't hold much weight looking at his resume.

Berto Who?
Berto is a skilled fighter with all the tools ,but he doesn't have the intangibles of a great fighter because he has not been tested. How is he gonna react when he get's his chin checked, what is tempement against a guy who can take one hell of a punch, how will he do when he gets cut. How will he do against a power puncher? To many questions no answers as of yet. Once we as boxing fans bare witness to all the mentioned circumstances then we will know where to place Berto. Berto however needs to be placed into those circumstances aginst better opposition. Forbes is solid and always has been ,but it seems like to me Berto is being led by Dibella the same way Jermain Taylor was led. Get a title that was'nt deserved rack up cash by headlining cards as the champ faceing safe competition all the while offer legitimate contenders ridicolously low amounts of cash forceing them to look elswhere say those guys are ducking the champ so we have to face more tomato cans. Then when Dibella can no longer conatin the arrogance of Berto who will want to face the best of the best he will get crushed in fight one and then again in a rematch. It's all buisness! Berto needs to build a resume like Cotto meeting all challengers or Margarito stay busy against whoever then beat the dog sniffle out of the divisions elite. Then he can make his claims? Mayweather would have whoop this guy in 9 rounds. Cotto can Ko him in 10. Margarito would lift him off his feet in 7 rounds. Mosley would use ringgeneralship in a split decision win. Clottey would end his career in 2 rounds. Paul Williams would Punish him by UD in 12. Judah will either lose by ko IN 10 OR FIGHT HIM TO A DRAW. PACMAN would end BERTO's LIFE 1st round comatose!

I wouldn't say "fragile" chin though. Questionable, perhaps, but not fragile. You must be thinking of the Cosme Rivera knock down. He was excited to be on big-time tv and got anxious for a big knock out. (to the point where he dropped his defense)
Getting caught with a surprise and being broken down are two TOTALLY different things.
ANYONE can get caught with a suprise hit like that. He still came back strong right after with an awesome performance for the win after that.
BUT!! his chin might be in question. I wonder what his reaction will be to a strong cintron right hand, cotto left hook, margarito barrage. If you look at his opposition, you'll notice he hasn't faced anyone with heavy hands. NOT TO SAY HE'S UNABLE TO HANG WITH THEM, but I also wonder about his chin.

I say give it 3 or 4 years and he will be awesome and maybe then will he be the best welterweight.
