    Great thing about boxing today....

....is that everybody is fighting everybody still to this day. I give credit to Erik Morales who keep fighting everybody and in his time other fighters started to step up and fight anybody.

Another thing that is great is, if fighter A, loses to fighter B, then fighter B, beats fighter C, then we see fighter A and fighter B fight. And i think that is great its like round robins as they say. Just as it happened with Mayorga, Mosley, Vargas, Delahoya, Triniadad. I know years down the line young boxing fans are going to have the great prevlige to look back at them wars say, well instead of saying who is better lets just see how so and so did against the same opponet. I think its great and its happend in more then one group of fighter like, Barrera, Morales, Maquez, Pacquiao, Kelly, Ayala, then we got, Arce, Mijares, Navarro, Darchinyan, Donaire, Montiel, i think soon these guys will start doing a round robin but even here you can go to Mijares and see how these great opponets faired against him.

The ‘option’ of having top fighters facing each other has always been there but IMO, a last resort for most promoters…and I believe that the rise of MMA had some influence in ‘nudging’ boxing to put on these types of showdowns…it’s indeed a good thing for fight fans

also everybody is on the paper chase right now capitalizing on their celebrity before mma takes over.

why do you think gbp is promoting mma and working with affliction now. they believe the boat is going to sink soon.

That might have something to do with it now. But i recall when no one was doing it before Erik Morales started stepping up to any challenge.

People have been predicting the downfall of boxing forever. I have boxing ****zine from 92 that say how boxing is dieing. In comes Oscar Delahoya...may take some time but back will be center stage once again and not only when a Delahoya fight takes place. Its just a cycle. I welcome mma, cause before them not I see boxing right next to there name on sport websites like espc, sportillulstrated etc. were before you'd have to go to more sports then find boxing on the title.

Well Erik was different from other fighters in that he actually TOLD arum who he wanted to fight…not vice versa…and when the ppv numbers came in, arum was wise to go with the flow

I think a great way of having the fights made that the fans want to see is *****g together elimination tournaments in certain weight classes and throw a pot of money for thw winner of the tournament. Liek who wouldn't mind seeing 4 or 8 names thrown into a hat and matched against each other. Say Marg, Cotto, Mosely, Williams, Clottey, Berto, Collazo, and DLH. have a tourney first round purses preset and winners get x amount losers get x amount. So on and so forth for the remainging rounds with the winner getting the belts and the biggest pot at the end of the rainbow. try doing this on a station where they can get sponsers to make it worth wild for the fighters to do it. have pay per view for the last fight. Boxing needs to be on stations where it can be seen world wide with out PPV in order to bring it to the light more then it has been in recent years. I think this kind of tourney or unifacation brackey would do such a thing if it were promoted correctly and sponsered by the right people. Put some fights on TV for god sakes. Notr everyone has HBO or Showtime. Maybe if more kids saw boxing on TV and stations they did not have to pay for they would buy fights and boxing would be more like it was in the old days....Lefty

MMA wont take over. Don't even start thinking that, it will always be smaller than boxing. Mark my words.

Hey man you're dead right. I like this thread here, finally people aren't bitching about how **** boxing is today and are appreciating what we got. Nate Campbell takes on Diaz, then asks for Casamayor and accepts possibly the most dangerous challenge within 2 divisions in Guzman (whether or not it went down). Diaz and Katsidis face each other early and coming off of losses, regardless of money see who has the brighter future. Casamayor and Marquez. Cotto takes on Judah, Mosley, and Margarito. Margarito takes on Williams, Clottey, and Cotto. Pav fights Miranda, Taylor, and Hopkins. Hopkins fights Tarver, Wright, and Calzaghe. Tarver goes on from his loss to Hops to fight Woods and Dawson. Calzaghe taking on Roy (a bit too late but its happening none the less). And the endless talent in the smaller divisions are sorting it out as well. Boxing has been very kind to us as of late, we should be thankful.
