I know they're in different weight class, but who do you think fought the tougher competition in there first 34 fights? Like did one of these fighters look like they were trying to take an easier route while the other one looked like he took on tougher competition?

Calzaghe vs Pavlik resumes... Calzaghe's first 34 wins compared to Pavliks

Pavlik fought a weight drained Edison Miranda and an overrated Jermain Taylor.
Calzaghe fought a GAME Chris Eubank, he was on the slide but he was still a world level fighter, a prime Robin Reid who is extremely underrated, Omar Sheika who had just came off a win against Glen Johnson and a former champion in Richie Woodhall.
I don't think it's even debateable, considering that Pavlik has only fought one world class opponent in Jermain Taylor, and a one dimensional fighter in Edison Miranda.

I think I actually agree, but I don't think pavliks resume is as bad as some of you are making out to be. Your forgetting zertuche, zuniga, mckart. So that totals, Taylor, Taylor, Miranda, Zertuche, Zuniga, and Mckart. Those are all 6 good wins against quality opponents at that time.

As Far was world class,Hopkins was the only opponent that Joe faced and Lacy was a one dimensional fighter so that can't be in this statement.

i look at it like this. at 26 yrs old joe had 25 fights, and pavlik has 35 fights including his with bhop. it's close as far as resume, but age for age pavlik is doing quite well for a 26 yr old kid who is the recognized mw champion of the world, and farther along than joe was at that time. pavlik is only 10 fights behind joe, and is 10 yrs younger. that is impressive for his age.
