Nate Campbell-Joan Guzman: BScene Staff Predictions

By Rick Reeno - Aside from all of the controversy between the WBC and the local commission, Saturday's main event at the Beau Rivage Theatre in Biloxi, Mississipi has people talking. IBF/WBO/WBA lightweight champion Nate Campbell (32-5-1, 25 KOs) will make his first defense of the titles against undefeated two-division champion Joan Guzman (28-0, 17 KOs). Back in March, Campbell, a decent underdog, upset then-undefeated Juan Diaz with a dominating performance in Cancun, Mexico to lift the titles. In his first title defense, Campbell is once again listed as the underdog in several betting circles. [details]

I wasn't polled for this piece but I'm picking the bigger Campbell against Guzman.

^^nate is a great guy but Guzman has had a lot of tough breaks over his career as well and for various reasons never got a big shot. He finally has his big shot here in nate campbell and I think he deserves it! Nate has had plenty of shots.

But obviously who deserves a win more doesn't mean **** in boxing, I just hope the fight is scored fairly and the best man of the night comes out with the win

i cannot support a cowardly fighter and guzman does fight like a coward who runs way to much. he ran for his life from soto and i expect him to run from campbell. i just hope campbell can show the world that he is a TRUE galaxy warrior and walk guzman down and knock him out!!!

dude........seriously stfu. He boxed (and traded) against soto beautifully. He did however coast the last three rounds, but that doesn't make him a coward (he was winning plus a one year layoff).

Do you think Pernell Whitaker was a coward?

Well there it is man. A slickster like Guzman will have trouble with bigger, physical fighters. Guzman has jumped a bunch of divisions and in those divisions, he has fought guys like Soto and Barrios, styles that suit him well. Campbell can box and punch, and he has a game plan to deal with the shoulder-rolling of Guzman. (I found out the hard way when I asked him. I got in Guzman's stance and Campbell proceeded to dig right hands into my left shoulder. Owwy!)

You just can't stand in front of a guy like Campbell and make him miss. You have to back him up as well. I don't think Guzman has enough to back Campbell up personally. Though he isn't undefeated by accident...
