What happened to Jermain Taylor's power??

When he was up and coming he was regarded as having a laser left jab and a powerful right hand.

Now general consensus is that he's somewhat weak.

I don't care what no one says in the first Pavlik fight, Kelly got hit with an equilibrium shot that dazed him and the rest of Jermain's blows Kelly just ate.

I see guys like Ivan Calderon hitting people with shots on the temple and doing no damage. Then I see Taylor landing right hands on Pavlik and he's wobbling around like crazy.

I think Taylor is very heavy-handed, his problem is that he isn't fighting club fighters like Alex Bunema and Daniel Edouard. He's waiting on people now as opposed to setting up offense with his jab, he was much more dangerous when he was working his jab and then setting up right hands.

I would still say Jermain has more power than Kelly. Kelly was landing the flush punches on Jermain's face, and Jermain's hardest punches were landing on Kelly's gloves. Kelly wasn't really hit all that clean.

It just gets harder to knockout elite fighters...How many people have been able to knockout Wright? Hopkins? Pavlik? Spinks wouldn't engage at all and among the worst fights that I have seen. Ouma has never been down that I know of...

I like Jermain but you can't say that given that he only has a 58% knockout percentage to Pavlik's 88%

Ouma's first loss was by first round knockout. He was down in the first round against Rubio and twice against Karmazin.

That's a good point, but look at the level of opposition you just mentioned. Pavlik aint knockin out bernard or winky no way. Maybe ouma and spinks, but not from being stronger. He gets into slugfests and wears down his opponents with steady power punching. Jermain is more of a one punch knockout fighter. If Jermain could throw anywhere close to as many punches as Pavlik throws, you'd see a pretty perfect ko %. Also Jermain, as fast as he is, needs to learn to throw straight punches as well.

Pavlik's style is more like a power puncher's: He's long and uses his height and size for maximum leverage and uses the jab to set up combinations. Taylor has taken to fighting in flurries in recent years.
