Didn't he hold 2 World titles including the WBA and, I think, the WBC. So he was the pre-eminent title holder right up to the time of the Calzaghe fight.

So he HAD to be good, he WAS good, he IS good. And nobody should know this better than Calzaghe, who beat him, and besides, is a recognised expert on boxing. I'd rather trust Calzaghe's word that that of anyone on this board, that's for CERTAIN.

Logic ALWAYS beats wild assertions with no foundation under them except personal prejudice.
"Didn't step up"?!?!?!?! So beating Anthony Mundine (not even by KO!) for a title now makes a guy elite? The **** is the world coming to??? Holding an alphabet belt does not a great fighter make.

And you don't think that, just maybe, Joe is a little biased in his assertions? WTF is he supposed to say, "Yeah, Pavlik is waayyyy better than Kessler, but I don't wanna risk my '0' so I'm not gonna fight him"?!

But Calzaghe said it, so it's gotta be true right? Gimme a ****in break.

That was the first fight only, and it was mostly because JT gassed big time. In the return, I don't think Taylor was ever really in trouble at all.

And remember, Joe tasted the canvas against Hopkins, Taylor did not.

          Pavlik vs Margarito

This would be the ultimate fight for true boxing fans. If I'm not mistaken, Margarito is a natural welterweight. Which means it wouldn't be out of the question for him to be pretty strong as a middleweight. When we all saw him walk through Kermit Cintron for a second time, who I might add has pretty heavy hands himself, it made you wonder how this machine would do against the will and determination of Miguel Cotto, with all his superior boxing ability. Now, after watching him walk Cotto down, which I never expected him to break him down the way he did. I mean he lost the first 5 of 6 rounds pretty convincingly. He walked through some hellacious Cotto bombs and his beard didn't even budge. It's like the man has a chin really made of steel. You take this element up to middleweight and face off against a guy with solid and true power, unlike any welterweight in the world in Kelly Pavlik. Pavlik is known for similar traits as Margarito in recent fights. The ability to walk down their opponants and smother them with hard, straight punches, willing to take a few to get one kind of mentality, especially Margarito. Pavlik himself has a set of whiskers. Just watch the Edison Miranda fight. I think this would be true fireworks and has the ability to be even more of an anticipated fight than Cotto-Margarito. I have a hard time believing Marg could withstand a truly, legit and strong middleweight power puncher like Pavlik pressing him with harder shots than he was taking against Cotto. As we know, styles make fights and Pavlik would beat Marg at his own style of fighting. Stalking, throwing, body punching, in-fighting, etc... It might actually look a lot like the Miranda fight. It surly wouldn't be easy for Pavlik because of Marg's beard and careless attitude to take some to give some. Someone should tell Mr. Arum to make this fight since he has both fighters under his contract. This has all the makings of a classic. A war.

Taylor never got dropped in first round by a Hopkins that is older, slower, less punches. And was able to get a UD over him which Joe didnt.
So one could legitimately say Taylor > Calzaghe.

Kessler and Pavlik in 09 no matter what happens this year...will be a cracker...I dont think Kessler would want to risk it possibly though as he would probably retire should he be beaten again...we all saw what happened after Calzaghe and that was very dissapointing for Kessler fans...if Kelly KOed him (which is very possible of course) that would be the end of Kess...guaranteed.
He has already formerly said he will retire after a few more anyway as hes made enough money to live comfortably.
As for all you Kessler haters out there...give us a ****en break huh!!!???
We support Kessler no matter what so get of our ****en backs!!!
He said she said...oh hes better...aww no he aint...get the **** outta here!!!

Kessler can make a ****, but he has fight the wolves now. He has physical ailments and time is not on his side. He really need to fight the Bute/Andrade winner to put himself in a position where opponents have to come to him.

Lets face it, he is not getting good fights right now as nobody will come to him looking for a fight. He is way too risky for them. He will have to force the Agenda. Palle should really try to showcase him in a fight in the US. Kessler deserves another chance to reach the top.
