    Country Pride is for losers.

Although the MGM crowd was nuts and made the fight even better I will never understand why people are obsessed with having to root for their country men. It's sports, not a real war. You should just root for who you want to root. Being white a ton of people kept asking me who are you rooting for since youre white. Why do I have to be Mexican or PR? What if I was mexican pulling for Cotto? I just think its really dumb, its only sports root for whoever you want to. Same goes with people that think if a fighter from USA beats a guy from the UK that their country is superior to the others. Sports is meant to be fun, not to tear worlds apart.

it's cool and all to have support from your countrymen, but I never really understood it. But maybe that's because I'm american and not from a smaller country, i dunno.

My favorite fighters are all non-americans and if they fought americans I'd be cheering for them. For example, I'll be cheering for Joan Guzman to **** Nate Campbell up.

I'm a fan of the fighter: hopkins, guzman, pacquiao, cotto, pavlik, etc. can care less where they from

The truth is right or wrong boxing has always been historically based on nationalistic or racial lines for the most part.

It would be nice if we got past that.
AFTER all it's not like Mexico beat Puerto Rico Saturday night. It was just one man beating another.

But they market it like that because they know it works to bring that part of the equation in.

Pretty much I agree with this. Its the same as people from LA claiming "We ****ing did it!!!" when the Lakers do well. People just have to try and feel accomplished and involved somehow, but I think its pretty ******ed to cheer for someone just because of where they are from. But its MUCH more ******ed to cheer against someone else because they arent from the same place as you. Mexicans didnt win ****, Margarito won. All the flag waving and talking down to PR's doesnt make them better, they just happend to be backing a guy who won. Had Cotto won and the PR's been cokcy with the Mexicans it would have been just as ******ed. Its an individual sport, you didnt have **** to do with any of it. Win or lose. Now shut the **** up and enjoy the fight.

It is weird because sport is been made to make people come together instead of separating them

Nationalistic pride is huge in boxing. When you said, who are you rooting for since your white, i think thats what keeps the majority of white people outside of boxing.

They dont really have a white american to root for while filipinos have pacquiao, puerto rico different fighters, mexico different fighters, etc. I think they would feel much better rooting for Pavlik which is good to see.

Yeah and thats what I found real dumb that the promoted it like that. Im a big fan so it doesnt matter to me but how do you promote Cotto V Marg to a casual white fan? Especially when you just keep talking about how its PR V Mexico. Like I said I kept getting asked because I wasnt part of either country. It shouldnt go down like that.
