He did look good defensive wise at the start did cotto
i remember thinking **** his gonna run away with this.
He was just nicking it,Backpeddling then Catching Marg
with a couple of flashy combos then back out again out of range.
I dont think he hurt Marg at all in there.
Then Marg just upped his game and that was it

He has the winners mentality, lets see if he comes back.
His defense was not great by all means... That's why i would rate floyd's defense above whitaker's, cotto was flashy there slipping punches but while doing so he was not: throwing, stopping margarito from throwing. Floyd would tie him up. I can't believe people bashed on Floyd when he won tittles in 130 up to 154 skipping only 140 and handling bigger guys almost ALL HIS CAREER and compared him with Cotto. I can say Cotto's punching ability is world class, his footwork, angles (defense angles like giving the shoulder instead of standing square) are not, his defense apart from slipping a few punches in a flashy way was: retreating and covering up. But he's still young and will comeback i'm sure... He just needs to train harder and better.

I disagree, he slipped and blocked a LOT of those shots, Margarito kept throwing and throwing thou from all angles, in order to land your shots if you're Cotto you have to step into Margo's range. Cotto was figthing the perfect fight until he started getting tired in the mid rounds and staying too long on the ropes, I do agree about tying up thou. About Floyd, think of a guy who punches as hard as Castillo, but taller and that throws many more punches with a better chin. There's a good reason why Floyd and Mosley never took the fight.

The flaw in Cotto's gameplan was not to go to the body enough. He boxed really well and placed some great shots on Margo's chin, but he never stopped to punish the body. Had he done that, Margarito wouldn't have had the energy level he had in the late rounds and Cotto would've had a much better chance of winning a decision.
