Excerpt from an article I was reading. I disagree only on the point that Cotto has one punch KO power. Yes he has made people take knees and standing eight counts but he's never closed the show on a one shot deal. Discuss.
On one side we have Antonio Margarito, arguably the most feared Welterweight in the last five years and a beloved Mexican fighter. There has been a rumor for the last couple of years that Floyd Mayweather and Shane Mosley turned down multi-million dollar fights with him.
His fighting style is very much like the famed Mexican fighter Julio Cesar Chavez in that he is relentless and is willing to take your punches in order to give you his. Although a loss to Paul Williams last year slowed his chances at Cotto's title, he has since ripped through two other fighters to get here.
The Tijuana Tornado will stop at nothing to become the undisputed Welterweight champion and Saturday will be his chance to do not only that, but also to become a Mexican fight fan God.
On the other side of the ring we have the soft spoken Miguel Cotto. Although he is a man of few words, his hands do all the talking in the ring. He is the perfect fighter, in that he has one punch KO power, and the skill and speed of the top boxers in the world.
With this fight Cotto has the chance to become the only top fighter to take on the most feared fighter in the world, surpassing future hall of famer Felix Trinidad as the best boxer to come out of Puerto Rico. He also creates the possibility of fighting some of today's money making legends, like Ricky Hatton, Oscar De La Hoya, and the semi-retired Floyd Mayweather.
This fight is the kind we'll all talk about for months—not because of how disappointed we were, but because it was so great. I for one am hoping that Cotto vs. Margarito can save boxing. But if it can't, at least it'll be fun to watch.
