but floyd made more money than any blood and guts fighter
Floyd has made a lot of money, but most fans can't stand him. And the bulk of his money came in his last two fights against fighters with immense followings. There is no way to prove it, but I would bet the majority of people tuned in to see Oscar and Hatton in those fights. And look at Floyd now, retired and bitter making unfounded accusations. I'd rather be poor, happy and respected than rich and bitter any day. Jmo.
A win is a win. But if you win boring, no matter how good you are the fans won't want to pay to watch you. See Winky Wright. If you're the best but not exciting, and dont fight the top comp, the fans aren't going to love you. See Floyd. Exciting fighters, especially ones who win, are followed, loved and make money.

when boxing enthusiasts say they prefer the warrior mentality, i think they meant someone in between a face-first-allout-warrior and the potshot-making-runner. gatti is in one extreme and pbf is on the other extreme side of the hit and not be hit slogan, making him look like a runner. now that's ok to some extent, but ADD to this he didn't face the best fighters at welter recently then retired and you got floyd.
