Didn't say that MMA would be super popular like Boxing in PR. That's a long way yet. You do have the materials for a nice small crop of fighters. All you need is a good school to refine it and the work ethic to keep it running.

mma is just starting its slide right now from the mainstream hype.In combat sports the mainstream comes and goes based on current fighters but if you don't have a good sized base that is true to the sport like us boxing fans on this board then when you start to slide from the mainstream spotlight you just keep sliding.Boxing survives decade after decade because every time the mainstream fans leave us the hardcore fan is there to hold the sport up till the next tyson or dlh comes along.Looking at ufc's fan base i would say that once it starts down hill its over. There fan base is all young white guys that are pop culture junkies and trend followers about 90% mainstream.

Agin, while yes, you're going to have Affliction****, everyone totally underestimates the grappling community.

It's more then guys sporting fake tans, looking tough in a t-shirt.

I honestly have no idea why some people see it that way....MMA will never take boxing away nor will any other fight style. MMA will have their thing and boxing will have it's thing. I for one can't stand watching MMA and same for some people who can't watch a boxing fight. There is just no threat to one or the other

Actually I think it's a combination of people underestimating the grappling community and prominent grapplers overestimating themselves. BJ Penn not working on his conditioning and standup despite going up in weight against matt hughes comes to mind.

Also i have yet to see a season of the ultimate fighter where the contestants didnt completely trash the house or do something completely delinquent. Something the most absurd of boxers would never stoop to. Tyson was a psycho but he didnt go biting random people on the vegas strip.

just because someone knows how to box well off the back foot doesnt make them a coward you idiot. if they were cowards they wouldnt even be boxing in the first place

Last night, I walked around and saw that there were several bars that was carrying UFC 86. And every single one of 'em was at its full capacity. So I ended up watching the fight at the same bar I saw the PAC - Diaz PPV. Another difference I saw, was that MMA fights tend to attract a more diverse crowd.

In today's boxing, only DLH and the now retired Floyd could have fans showing to see a fight at a bar. But the UFC has had this trend going on for a few years now with various fighters.
                  Where was this?

yes u got that right. wasn't chuck the most exciting fighter they got before. what did chuck do when he fights? he doesnt ****ing do that jiu jitsu ****. look at anderson silva his most exciting fights were standing up. no matter what contact sport it is when two guys stands up and punch each other, it would clearly be the most exciting part.
