Let's be realistic.... Joe wants to fight Roy because of $$$$$$ not because he thinks Pavlik doesn't deserve a shot. That's just bull****. So an old past his prime Roy Jones deserves the shot? That just sounds ******. Don't get me wrong, I want to see Jones and Calzaghe fight but to say that Pavlik doesn't deserve a shot is complete crap.

Enzo Calzaghe: "A Kelly Pavlik Fight Will Never Happen"

The only guy Enzo doesn't insult here is a 39 y/o Roy Jones Jr, a guy who is 3-3 in the last four years and has been knocked out twice in that period.
Instead he completely trashes well-accomplished younger fighters who are still in their prime, Pavlik and Taylor, two guys who would at least present some threat to his precious little boy. He even disrespects his very own Gary Lockett, a guy who he couldn't train any better than not to get hit square in the face for 3 rounds.
The annoying little old jazzman is just trying to get as much press as possible for whatever fight they are able to line-up. I don't blame him for going after RJJ, but he knows that's not the fight the public wants to see, and he also knows exactly why they want to see Joe fight Kelly. No need to run his ****ing mouth when everyone can see right through it.

Joe WAS considering a fight with either Pavlik or Jones.
He saw what happened to Lockett, THEN his decision came.
After the Lockett fight Joe said - "Pavlik doesn't wanna fight me",
Now he says, "Pavlik doesn't deserve it"
Any other excuses?
All the greatest in history took on GREAT FIGHTS,
which is what made them great. It's not about unblemished records!!!!
But Joe's more interested in staying undefeated, fighting an out-of-his-prime Jones!
(no disrespect to the great Roy - cause I'll be routing for him)
But Pavlik will KNOCK JOE OUT!!!!!!!!! and he knows it.Last edited by BIGPOPPAPUMP; 06-25-2008, 12:26 PM.

It looks good on paper statistically beating a established great fighter in RJJ but if you ignore the numbers and accomplishments, beating a prime, young, undefeated and REAL middleweight champion in Pavlik would get him more credit from the public.
Either way, wrong move Enzo because I think RJJ has just enough in the tank to pull off a upset. Stylistically Pavlik is the easier fight.

Anyone who knows boxing will be aware that Pavlik is more of a threat than Jones. He has an amazing chin, great conditioning and he can dig a bit.
That said I do give Jones a chance in the fight with Calzaghe. I honestly dont think Joe has the power these days to KO Jones, but Jones still has much of his speed and power.
If Jones really works on his workrate and stamina (which lets be honest arn't what they were) he may well do well against Joe!
