I think people will hardly remember Floyd Mayweather in a few years.

Warriors like Roberto Duran are never forgotten, but people usually don't remember cowards.

I've been trying to look at Floyd's retirement as objectively as possible and I've finally come to a conclusion.

I don't think its that Floyd is a coward. I know most of the people will agree that Floyd is the best p4p fighter alive (even if he is retired). I also don't think he is actually afraid of fighting anybody. Simply saying, I just don't think his motivation in life is boxing. It's money. He'd rather make millions of dollars doing endorsements and tv spots than he would training and living the hard life of a boxer. Simple as that. And in a lot of ways I can't blame him. I know a lot of fans might find this "selfish". But he doesn't owe anyone anything. Although it is a huge waste of talent, cos I really believe that he could have been a top 5 atg and cleaned out the welterweights.

Floyd's hand-picked old and/or shot fighters with titles, like Hernandez, Baldomir, De La Hoya and Gatti, while avoiding the best in each weight class like Mosley at 135, Tszyu at 140 and Cotto at 147.

Now he's even peeing his pants with fear at the thought of facing past-prime De La Hoya again, so he's retired to avoid the September fight!

"Chicken" Floyd Mayweather will be remembered as one of the worst cowards in boxing history.
IMHO FLoyd wants to keep his legacy at a perfect record. He might be afraid of De La Hoya. But he is definitely AFRAID OF COTTO. I agree hand picked fighters, who are over/past their prime.

Just like what Bob Arum is doing to Manny Pacqioau. Protecting him from good elite fighters from now on, it seems.
David Diaz, Hatton???(barely, BARELY won over LAZCANO), Oscar De La Hoya maybe????

When I bank over $50 million in a calender year, call me whatever you want. While I do agree he was a ***** all the way up until then end, these guys, nowadays, are doing it for the money. It is rare to find the deep roots of boxing running through any of these guys veins that doesn't have a supreme pricetag on it. Floyd is gone and probably won't be missed by many. He did duck alot of prime elite fighters in which would of tested him to the fullest. But when you step back and look at true boxers and boxing heart and spirit, you don't look at the loss' (PBF) you look at the heart (Gatti). Floyd, I hope you stay retired sir, that's the only way you will remain undefeated.

He would have made tens of millions more this year, if he had gone through with the De La Hoya fight. But he doesn't even have enough courage to face his hand-picked opponents any more.

Of course not, I didn't even want to see the first one. I want to see Floyd face a prime welterweight. But some people evidently did want to see it, since the first fight made a lot of money, and the second one was expected to as well.

Floyd retired because he was afraid of losing to De La Hoya, his hand-picked opponent.

if you don't want to see floyd/oscar II... then why call floyd a coward for retiring instead of taking the rematch?

                      1. Because it's true.

                      2. Because his fans make him out to be some kind of superman.

                      3. Because the sports media has overhyped and overrated this coward, making him out to be a great fighter, which he's not. Jason Abelson says Floyd is "easily the best fighter of the past 30 years" better than Leonard, Hearns, Hagler, Duran and prime Jones. Max Kellerman sounds like an infatuated teenage girl when he overhypes Floyd. It's sickening!
