hopkins/de la hoya is a lot closer (160 to 154) then 130 to 154 and at least odh fought at 160 prior.

DLH Started at 130 lbs...Hopkins started at 177 bs. At middleweight DLH didn't win a single fight (Yes he lost to Sturm)... While this is as bad as Hopkins-DLH, lets not forget that Pacquiao comes in the ring at 144-148 pounds, he wont be affected at 135 at all, but it could happen at a catch weight of 148 lbs...Not that I would want to see it because Pacquiao is one of my favourite fighters.

Ok, first off Hopkins starting at "177" was fresh out of prison and in 1988. He fought at 160 for his entire career except for four fights total.

Second, it doesn't matter what you started at it's what your natural weight is at the time. Judging by the picture i posted, odh/pacman is no where near being close. Oscar had one fight at 160, but was clearly better at 154 and was and is his natural weight. Again, 160 to 154 is only a 6 pound difference. Not a huge deal and it's not unheard of at all. Going up several weight classes for a single fight is pretty unheard of these days.

Third, if we go by your logic, Pacquaio started at 107.

                  lol@ pacman weighing 170.

He should probably get a fight with Chad Dawson or Tarver then. Joan Guzman can fight Kessler and Edison Miranda can fight David Haye.

Hopkins was always a huge middleweight though, you simply cannot deny that. He could have made Light heavyweight years ago if he wanted, but since he was a gymrat he could fight for 160 for ages, not discrediting him or anything but my point is Hopkins to DLH was just like what DLH is to Pacquiao. The difference being Hopkins first fight was at 177 lbs, DLH's at 133, Pacquiao's at 106. First title fight for Hopkins was at Middleweight, First title fight for DLH was at Super featherweight, first title fight for Pacquiao was at Flyweight. Both are/were atleast 4-5 divisions apart in their first title fights, but Hopkins was a Huge Middleweight/Natural Light Heavyweight, Oscar was a Huge Super featherweight/ Natural Welterweight, Pacquiao was a Huge Flyweight/ Natural Featherweight...I hope gnomesayin

Wow, it's almost as if you didn't read a single thing I wrote.

                      Maybe if I simplify:
                      160 compared to 154 is 6 pounds.
                      154 compared to 130 is 24 pounds.

You can see in the odh/pacman picture I posted, there is a huge difference not just in weight but their actual frames. I'm not saying hopkins wasn't bigger the odh either, I know he was, but the difference wasn't anything like a 130 pounder fighting a jr middleweight.

When they fought Oscar already filled out as he aged, he was a natural 154 pounder, it doesn't matter what he started his career at. Like I said Pacman started at 107 that doesn't mean he's naturally 107 pounds.
