Yuriorkis Gamboa Hires Orlando Cuellar as Trainer

“Rising Star” Yuriorkis Gamboa was shining bright when he beat Darling Jimenez from New York this Saturday in Primm, Nevada by unanimous decision after a ten-round-war. Though criticized for keeping his hands down giving Jimenez the chance to drop the Cuban in the fourth most spectators were pleased by Gamboa’s exceptional speed, great ring movement and absolute dominance over a very experienced opponent. I think Sr would have made Gamboa a defensive fighter, make him work on the backfoot, whats special about Gamboa is his agressiveness mixed in with backfoot fighting,he can do it all,i think Sr will make Gamboa more of a defensive fighter, imagine Gamboa with Nacho Barnstein,he'd mix in Gamboas offense with defense,Gamboa would be a beast, almost unstoppable

If there is one thing Cuellar is good at teaching is the art of keeping your hands up.

thats what I wanted to see too, but then I started thinking: does Gamboa speak english? If not, then obviously it could be an issue.

Hopefully Gamboa can keep those hands up. You can tell he tries but he said in an interview it is a habit since childhood, so it's gonna be a bit tough to break.

I think he will make the necessary improvements, anyone see how disappointed he looked even though he clearly won the fight?

If Gamboa can improve his defense he really could become an incredible boxer. Sometimes getting knocked on your butt can be a great motivator however so ironically maybe the knockdown was the best thing that could have happened to him.
