Hopkins's record has big names but little men.

Bernard as much as much as I love the dude has made a career out of beating guys smaller than him.

His boxing debut was at Light Heavy and that resulted in a loss.

There is no doubting the names on his C.V. are amazing, but the truth of the matter is he fought mostly smaller guys.

To quote the man himself "a good big guy always beats a good small guy"

DisclaimerI do not agree with anything in the above post, it is merely a direct countermeasure to the rampant bhop fanboys trolling this forum

Legal I hereby condone everything in the above post, it is both my belief and opinion.

Glen Johnson and ANtonio Tarver we're natural Light Heavyweights that were considered the TOP 2 a few years ago. and still formidable as of date.

    HOP owns them both.

he was probably not in top fighting shape when he started at light heavy. therefore he went down in weight. remember he took 2 years between his 1st fight and when he decided to put the gloves on again. and how can you criticize him when tons of fighters walk around at 20-30 above their fighting weight.

Both correct, however the argument still stands. The majority of the big names on Hopkins's C.V. are naturally smaller than him.

maybe true but it wasnt his fault that he's a freak of nature that at 6'2 he can easily make 160 ( he's even @157 againts DLH).

He keeps himself in shape between fights. thats why he doesnt lose power or stamina making 160.

BHop is natural LightHeavy but you cant deny a fighter the opportunity to stay (make limit) and be dominant at a certain weight category.

Even Marvin Hagler didnt move up.

I agree with what you're saying, but the most you can ask of a great fighter is to beat the best in his weight division. In between RJJ and Taylor, Hopkins spent several years doing that.

Yeah, so he lost his first fight which was right after serving 4-5 years or so in prison. He then took 16 months off before fighting again, after getting a new trainer, winning 20 or more straight. His second fight, he took on very short notice and actually weighed 5-6 pounds lighter than his middleweight opponent.

And, as others have said, he walked around at 160 365 days a year. He's a health nut and criticizing a man for working hard is ridiculous. It's like saying Marvin Hagler wasn't a true middleweight because he trained so hard.

And the smaller man argument is a weak one as well. He didn't fight "mostly smaller men" he fought a couple guys that were betteer in lower weights, like Trinidad, ODH, but they did have prior fights at middleweight before Hopkins. In addition, these men signed the contracts and these men wanted to fight Hopkins. What was Hopkins to do? Turn down the biggest fights of his career so that people wouldn't use that against him years later?

Also it's not like "smaller" men haven't beat bigger men before. Mayweather beating ODH, or Sugar Ray Leonard beating Hagler, etc etc etc.
