If you do your best - and lose - so be it. You just were not good enough. But if you blow a singular opportunity because you didn't live up to your own expectations/abilities, that hurts more.
It always does. I guess the subsequent excuses and the 'fluke' comment didn't soften the blow of a TKO loss.

You don't get to that level in boxing unless you believe you can win every fight.

I have NO PROBLEM with an athlete crying - win or lose.

I actually think he talked himself into believing he could win.

A few years ago, he knew he couldn't win, which is why his team said “Rick is not ready.” So they waited, waited, and waited until they saw a slip, a weakness. The Floyd who offered a fight years ago was crazy-good and offensive, specifically against fighters under 147. But this Floyd, like he mentioned in interviews leading up to the fight, "closes up shop" which means he doesn't fight the full round, something Ricky, in his mind, can do, can counter this and win. Also, he mentioned how Floyd is heavier now than in prior years. Increased weight on a former lightweight must have decreased stamina if pressured, after all, moving up just one weight class hurt him (Ricky), so why wouldn't it hurt Floyd if he is forced to fight at a high pace. In addition, Floyd, being a lightweight would be smaller. His power, well, when was the last time he knocked someone out. This is also important because I doubt Ricky had any reason to believe he could be knocked out, let alone from a smaller fighter like Floyd.

All this was in Hatton's mind, giving him reason why he could win.

Except in baseball. Although, I guess it is like John Kruk said when asked by a fan why he is fat, "Lady, I'm not an athlete. I'm a baseball player."

Don't forget the ZILLION times they say "Ricky is not a welterweight" after repeatedly saying that Ricky was the bigger, stronger man.

That is what entertains me Tabout Hatton fans and Graham/Kayes. Before the fight, they claim that Hatton is too strong for Floyd. After the fight, it was because Floyd was too big and strong for hatton.

As if Floyd is a natural welterweight.

                    Listen to Graham:

"I spent a week with him. HE IS NO BIGGER THAN RICKY HATTON. DEFINITELY NOT BIGGER THAN RICKY HATTON."

Which one? The fake retirement after he beat Baldomir, after he beat Delahoya or after he beat Hatton?

All those victories kinda run together after awhile.
