Ricky's family was financially secure BEFORE this fight. I think he REALLY wanted this one. Throughout the pre-fight, he said that he dreamed of this fight FOR YEARS.

If you do your best - and lose - so be it. You just were not good enough. But if you blow a singular opportunity because you didn't live up to your own expectations/abilities, that hurts more.

I can believe it. This is the first loss of his career. He puts a ton of pressure on himself to win. He training is intense, both physically and mentally. He puts in his mind only one thing, Winning. The bad side-effect of that could be that when he lost, he wasn’t prepared, causing depression.
There was a medical study that showed when a Man wins, his testosterone levels elevate, but when he loses, his testosterone levels plummet. Testosterone is a "well-being" hormone, the overall hormone that is vital in good mood. He feels like a women becauase his testosterone levels are in the toilet and his estrogen probably kicked in. He needs to get some *****. The smell of ***** boosts Testosterone levels back up.
He should also think about leaving England, it's to rainy from what I hear. Go somewhere Sunny and fun.
The good thing about Hatton, as you can see in the interview, is that he still has his humor which will help turn things around. In addition, he has a good group around him, his family, something many fighters don’t have.
Just remember, he wanted to win, win for not only himself, but for the many that support him, so it’s not just feeling sorry for himself, it’s feeling bad that he let the many down.
This isn’t like he showed up out of shape or was ill, he was 100% and failed at something he firmly believe he would do, WIN.
This isn’t like Lewis when he got KTFO by Rahman or Tyson when he got his ass beat from round 1 and KFTO by Douglas because both of them were not prepared and they knew it, so a loss to them was understandable, it had a reason, it had a reasonable excuse. The only reason for Hatton losing at this point would be to say Floyd was better than him, better than him at 100% Ricky Hatton.
One would think someone that was outmatched, like Floyd Patterson, would take a loss easier, but he even didn’t. If anybody remembers the article about Floyd Patterson that came out right after his death, it said that when he lost he couldn’t lift his head in public, and wore clothes and a hat/hood so that nobody would recognize him. This coming from a former-middleweight, who bulked up to fight as a Heavyweight, which was still under 200 pounds, going up against a monster in Sonny Liston, a true Heavyweight.
This sport is tough, no doubt. Even Tszyu after his loss to Ricky looked like he wanted to cry, but held tough and held it in.
And no reason to criticize a fighter for this, unless it ruins his life, which I doubt.
It might be good to stop drinking though.Last edited by Benny Leonard; 12-20-2007, 07:13 PM.
