why do you find equipment in every boxing gym that improves head

Why do fighters wear ankle weights?

    jump rope?

And simulate ducking punches when doing pad workouts?

If I threw something at your head, hopefully you would have the wherewithal to move out of the way. ...

    Or

Would you Stand there get hit, and then throw something Back....?

    Generally Speaking....

I think fighters only resort to fighting flat-footed because they have no choice. and boxers like Mayweather has plenty of options, so he doesnt stand flat footed...., instead he boxes on his toes, just like SRL, SRR, or ali..

    So the question really is....?

Should he take punishment to give punishment...?
(Like fighters such as cotto, pacman, hatton)

Are Should he give Punishment and avoid Punishment..?
    (as he is doing now....)
It's just a difference in Philosophies... No Need to get all bent out of shape over it Horus..

What you are saying is Perfectly acceptable.. If you are Boxing...

Some people wouldn't call that fighting though.. They prefer Fighters.. men that engage...

I guess what they are saying... It's easy to beat a SwordsMan with a Bow and Arrow from a distance.. No one is denying the skill needed to use the Bow.. It just looks a bit cowardly..

Good thread Horus. In boxing, the name of the game is HIT and NOT get hit! Man my dad was a boxer and he has taught me that since I was a little. I bet when my dad gets 60 and I ask him what is the name of the boxing game, he will STILL say, "Hit and NOT get hit!"

I think as Welter stated, people want to see that engagement. People want to see 2 guys beat each other head off. They love to see each fighter bloody and ugly after the fight. Almost like a street fight, just with gloves on in the ring. Which is perfectly fine with that if that is what you want to see. I actually loved the Castillo-Chico, Israel-Marquez, and those type of wars!

HOWEVER, BOXING IS AN ART!! ALWAYS WAS AND IT ALWAYS WILL BE. Those who love the ART side of boxing, will appreciate MORE those boxers that have the "hit and get hit" attitude.

i hate the fact that posters like you who idolize Floyd always consider Marquez/Vazquez fights "brawls" as if there was no technical skill involved. its actually a very disgusting insult to both fighters. i REALLY dislike elitists like you. There was as much technical skill and strategy in that fight as there is in any Floyd fight. just because each fighter was willing to risk punishment more than your favorite fighter does not mean they arent as skilled or have options. some fighters fight for pride and the fans, some just fight to look good, for themselves, and for their wallet.

You can avoid punches without running.. look up Roberto Duran.
Mayweather got his track shoes on.

Because Cotto doesn't run doesn't mean he is constantly getting hit.. sure his style puts him in constant danger but you are a fool to think that they just sit there and let the other fighter hit him flush while he waits to counter.. there's ducks, weavs, and blocking punches with your gloves for a reason.
Look at Mike Tyson.. he didn't have to be on his bike all night to not get hit.

i don't think floyds a total runner, he does almost take it to the line in a couple of his fights, example watch the baldomir fight, that was running, that was really the only fight he was doing that though.

typical Mexican Warriors: Make name for thereselves by taking Punishment to give Punishment.... and they Feel Honor in that way of boxing...

So when they fight a fighter who dont take Punishment to give Punishment...
Instead Avoid Punishment to give Punishment
This explains the reason why they tend to called them runners....

and I think it coralates down to their fans, because than their fans called them runners...

So the question is in other not to be a runner do you have to take Punishment to give Punishment....?

                    But is that smart...?

Looking at the history of past fighters...., such as Ali, and Hearns, and thousands of other fighters....

taking Punishment to give Punishment is probably the dumbist thing you could do as a fighter..

Am i wrong to have that belief..?
Your a fool man... too funny.

the name of the game has always been do damage and win.
before modern times.. there was no unanimous or split decisions.. you knocked someone the **** out or got knocked the **** out.
