jermain taylor will officially be labeled a COWARD if he does not fight kelly pavlik. there is no legitimate excuse for him to not fight pavlik.

I agree that he should fight Pavlik. That would be good for his reputation is the boxing community. Even if he lost, I would respect him more because he took on a worthy challenger.

if arum was really trying to make a good buck on that fight with Taylor and Pavlik, he ought to get one or maybe even two more fights with Pavlik on HBO and build up his name with the public, creating a bigger demand for the fight, and then sell the **** out of it. something along the lines of the great white hype(the movie).

but get Kelly's name known, get him a bit of notoriety, and then bank of the selling of the fight.

because as of right now, Pavlik just eeking onto the big scene, it's too much risk verses no reward against Pavlik. now Taylor taking the Calzaghe fight he as a few outs and a few more reasons for fighting Calzaghe. the biggest being the money, as of right now even though Warren is low balling, Taylor would still probably get more money fighting Calzaghe. secondly, if taylor were to lose against calzaghe he has a few outs, he can blame weight from moving up, he can blame location if they fight over in the UK, he can use Calzaghe's status as an excuse saying that he is champ and that he was better than he thought this and that(just like lacy) so there would be no shame in losing to someone like that, and then if he did lose it would be easier to come back, because if he were to lose to Pavlik he couldn't use any of that.

if Taylor lost to Pavlik in his next fight, taylor would take a serious hit in his reputation, to the general public it would be Taylor losing to a unknown, although most of us here have known about Pavlik for some time. but it would be bad for him, so I can see why he would opt to drop his belt and go after Calzaghe.

i personally think that Pavlik should have a fight or two before going after Taylor. i think that Pavlik should fight Sturm and try and get his belt before fighting Taylor, that way he can get a little more experience, he can get his name out there a little bit more, and he can bring something(a belt) to the table to entice Taylor and his people for a unification bout, thus making Pavlik a little more cash in the fight................................

Well, we'll know before too long - I think Taylor and his management will make a decision within a week or two. Sometimes we blame the fighters for evading certain opponents, but often it's their management that's really guilty.

Let's remember HBO has considerable influence in all this - if they want it, it's likely to happen. I may be wrong, but my feeling is that the Taylor vs Pavlik fight will happen in September.
