All the real greats did it ... to be the best, they took on the tough contenders and dealt with the outcome ... win, lose or draw. I certainly do not think less of SRR, Ali, Armstrong, SRL, Hearns, ... because they have losses on their records. In fact, it's telling how they came back after their first loss that helps define the greats to me.

I don't know for sure but it seems to me that Mayweather Jr. would end up pocketing quite a bit of change if he did line them up and fight the non past their prime/retired contemporaries. At this stage though, I am doubtful that it would turn out this way. :sigh:
nicely put... honestly, he could have had more fights... he is barely hurt in his fights yet he has made it past 40 fights...

Strike Rocky Marciano off the "All time Great" list: Defeated past their prime greats, and since Marciano was undefeated, this leaves us to question if he could come back from a loss. What a shame...

Not that it was his fault, it was the era in which he fought, but it does open up debate.

Hatton and Cotto both lost to Mayweather

Margarito: I could understand not fighting him since money is part of the business side of boxing, but legacy points should figure into this. Although, after the fight with Clottey, I heard rumblings that Margarito was exposed, so how much credit would Floyd get.

Mosley: People will say he was still good, but "Past his Prime"

      Who else?

Winky: this would be a fight good for Floyd's legacy and good for insomniacs.

But what if he loses? We are talking about a former lightweight going up against a jr. middle/middle weight. Should we expect him to win? Would people jump on him if he loses that he is now not an all time great fighter, despite fighting above his comfort weight?
Floyd could walk into that fight at 148, Winky at 165+.
Lets not forget that many so called "All time Greats" have not moved up as far as Floyd has. Yes, Floyd did not have the competition for some to consider him a great down at 130's, but can anybody see the fighters there threatning him? Morales, Pac, Barrera, Casa, Diaz? I think not.
If they were around when Floyd was there and Floyd whooped all of them, I wonder if talk about Floyd's "legacy" would change.

well then we should hold that against him.

"I'd fight Trinidad," said Mayweather. "It would be easy. He can't deal with boxers. He got hit by (Ricardo) Mayorga. Cory Spinks beat Mayorga. Zab (Judah) knocked Cory Spinks out and I punished Zab. So, Trinidad definitely ain't going to do nothing."
I am not sure if it is smart to belittle an opponent like Tito: not because he is a dangerous fighter, but because he is seen as a great fighter and by beating a great fighter, you earn legacy points. By belittling Tito, saying "he can't deal with boxers", thus saying he sucks as a boxer, what points can you earn, especially given that he will becoming out of retirement.

On one hand it is great because it may tempt Tito to fight him, especially since Oscar just lost to him, Tito fans will be pushing him to fight him, and Papi like $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

There has been talk of a rematch between Trinidad and De La Hoya. The two last met in 1999 in a bout that saw Trinidad win a controversial majority decision. One of the major obstacles holding up a rematch for the last few years has been the weight. Trinidad refuses to fight below 160-pounds, and De La Hoya won't fight Trinidad at 160.

Mayweather, who weighed 148-pounds on the night he won a split-decision over De La Hoya, is not worried about fighting Trinidad at 160-pounds.
Seems like he is trying to take Oscar's money and victory.

He is telling Oscar, "I do not need you either...I will also take your business"

"I keep telling you guys weight don't win fights," Mayweather said. "With Oscar, it was a welterweight fighting a middleweight."
          Great, now fight Wlad

Does anybody think that Hatton or Cotto can beat Tito?

I would not mind seeing Shane Mosley vs. Tito.

Quick Note: I am not positive, but I think I remember seeing "Grant" Gloves being worn for both the Tito fights with Hopkins and Wright.
Now I know gloves are not supposed to make a difference, but I say bull****. "Grant" gloves seem to be wider/puffy, helping a defensive fighter, like Hopkins and Wright, block punches. "Grant" gloves may also be slightly less effective for a power puncher.

I am not saying Hopkins and Wright would of not still won, but Tito was at a disadvantage. Hopkins still kicks his ass no matter what gloves.

All I am saying is if we had 6-8 oz gloves that fit like a fist, who would win?

PBF saying he wants Trinidad because he thinks he is easy and easy to hit shows me what i always thought about PBF. He dont want hard fights against people who would cause him trouble. Why mention Tito who ive never thought was any good?

                I dont understand floyd...

I thought he said he was retired?

Surely a fight with Mosley or margarito Hatton or cotto
makes a thousand times more sense then Trinidad...

He wants to box people who he thinks he will look good against. Hatton and Mosely would give him nightmares.

This fight will make Floyd more money then any fight with Mosley, Hatton, Cotto etc...

I think the Tito fight is the most dangerous fight Floyd can be in, Mosley, Cotto, Hatton none of the guys hits as hard as Tito.

Anyway Floyd's really looking for some big money fights, that will be a rematch with Oscar or Tito.
