FMJ walked into the ring for his last fight at 150. You want him to go fight the best MW's.
C'mon, man. Everybody else Floyd's size is fighting at Junior Welterweight (140 limit). Isn't it enough that he is already fighting guys 15 pounds bigger than him? Taylor and Winky are in the 170s on fight night.

Can we have a boxing discussion without the unnecessary insults? You are not impressing anyone with your "monitor muscles". Please grow up.
You said that you wanted to see Floyd fight the best at 160. Who is the best at 160?

You can only fight those fighters that are willing to fight you...Cotto and Hatton did not want to fight Floyd, so he moved on.
O$car was a huge money and publicity fight
After watching the replay with Oscar saying "he is not sure", which is really telling Floyd that he {Oscar} does not need him...so, Floyd is saying back at Oscar, Fine, I do not need you either, and while I am at it, I will take your next opponent, Tito, and get something else you do not have, a victory over him.
Tito will also bring more publicity and more money than Hatton and Cotto.
Do you also think that even this version of Tito could not beat Hatton and Cotto?

This is a business ploy. Nothing more.
People do that "retirement" thing in all sports and entertainment now to get out of contracts, or to get more negotiating leverage. In FMJ's case, it is the latter. He can barely keep a straight face when he says "I'm retired".
"Well, if you want me to come out of retirement, you will need to pay me X dollars".
PBF is finally in the driver's seat. He is the biggest (active) name. Ex-Oscar, of course. And all of the guys will want to fight him because that will be the biggest money fight. Right now, he's the prettiest girl at the dance. And he's gonna hold out for the captain of the football team.
The ODLH fight was a week ago. Let's all be patient and see how this whole thing plays out.
Tranquilo.

Your position is that beause Hatton and Cotto did not fight Mayweather at 140 1-2 years ago that somehow this prevents them from EVER fighting. I understand that at the time he moved on...no criticism. But now why not revisit the idea of fighting them...if they still don't want to fight then I will have nothing to say. Furthermore your point about Tito beating Cotto and Hatton is moot. Tito is fighting at 160 which is way above where Cotto and Hatton fight so of course he could beat them...I will even give you that HISTORICALLY Tito at 147 would beat either of them but I live in the present. In reality Mayweather is a WW not a JMW or a MW so it makes infinitely more sense to fight guys at or near your weight class. If they don't want to fight NOW then move on to the next available option but not before then. PS I understand that this is most likely a ploy just to piss off DLH for denying the rematch.
I'm am simply saying that Hatton and Cotto were both top fighters, with titles, yet did not want to fight Floyd, yet so many people jump on Floyd like it is his fault.
To much discussion of Floyd not "Fighting the best", yet the supposed "Best" backed down and I would not still be surprised if they do not want to fight him right now.
Hatton and Cotto are waiting for Floyd to slip, then they will want to fight him. Floyd is 30 years old, I doubt Floyd can get any better. The man trains so much/often, so hard, that he may be is risking over-training at this stage/age.
So, I am saying based on my first statement that if Floyd does not fight them now, espcially Ricky "I do not give rematches" Hatton, I would not care.
Would I want to see these fights, Yes.
Cotto is at 147, perfect for Mayweather. Hatton will have to move up.Last edited by Benny Leonard; 05-13-2007, 06:36 PM.
